Position Summary
Serve as a medical interpreter for providers and patients and, if needed, staff. Relays medical information between speakers of two different languages in compliance with all BCHC policies and procedures, particularly relating to patient confidentiality and informed consent. The Medical Interpreter actively supports BCHC in its efforts to maintain designation as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and as a Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH). Participates actively in BCHC’s mission to provide exceptional patient-centered primary and preventive healthcare for all residents of Berks County, regardless of patient status.
Job Description
- Helps facilitate successful delivery of services to linguistically diverse patients.
- Explains BCHC resources, office protocols, and limitations to clinicians and patients; makes appropriate referrals; serves as a cultural and linguistic resource to both patients and providers to contribute to successful outcomes.
- Performs duties in a spirit of teamwork and cooperation. Adheres to BCHC policies on customer relations and hospitality.
- Understands BCHC’s system of service delivery.
- Completes written translations as required in patient encounters such as filling out forms and medical instructions, and medication schedules; administrative translations such as letters to patients, documents, and patient materials.
- Supports office operations by answering the phone, making outgoing phone calls, confirming appointments, document encounters, perform data entry, verify and schedule future appointments when necessary, general troubleshooting, filing, faxing, scanning, and photocopying.
- Assists department with on-the-job training and mentoring of interpreter internships.
- Utilize computer systems and BCHC software.
- Participates in effective, positive and collaborative relationships within and among the Center’s staff, as well as with patients, vendors, contractors, and related resources.
- Ensures all actions, job performance, personal conduct and communications represent the organization in a highly professional manner at all times.
- Ensures and upholds the confidentiality and privacy requirements of all patient records, and manages all daily tasks and activities consistent with HIPAA, state and federal laws and regulations, as well as within BCHC’s policies and procedures regarding confidentiality and security.
- Upholds and ensures compliance with and attention to all BCHC policies and procedures.
- Works to further the mission of BCHC and uphold organizational values.
- Work on special projects and assist other departments as assigned
- Other duties as required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
