Job Summary
University Technical Services, Inc. (UT-Services) is actively seeking full-time Engineering Technicians at its Special Communications Department in Hampton Road, VA and Patuxent River, MD. Some travel required to various CONUS and OCONUS locations. MUST HAVE AN ACTIVE TOP SECRET CLEARANCE.
Responsibilities and Duties
Selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents. Receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed; performs recurring work independently; work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions. Performs accordingly one or a combination of such typical duties as:
- Fiber infrastucture installation and testing experience
- Connect, Build and Install IP equipment and FFE in SCIF enviroments.
- Troubleshoots and correct malfunctions of equipment.
- Follows specific layout and diagrams to construct and/or package devices and subunits of equipment;
- Conducts various tests which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement; selects, sets up, and operates standard test equipment and records test data.
- Extracts and compiles a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc.; processes data, identifying errors or inconsistencies;
- Assists in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials which are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts. Develops information concerning previous operational failures and modifications.
- May need to undertake carpentry, minor construction activities to support modification to secured spaces to accommodate equipment installs.
Qualifications and Skills
MUST HAVE AN ACTIVE TOP SECRET CLEARANCE. Must have recent experience installing and maintaining data, a/v, and communications systems in SCIF environments. High School diploma and at least 5 years relevant work experience required. Ideal candidate shall be able to work independently, while meeting deadlines with effective time management practices. The candidate should possess strong communication, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and have experience interacting with customers to translate Needs into Solutions.
