Job Description:
As a Durable Medical Equipment Service Coordinator, you will play an important role in enhancing the lives of our patients by providing them with the essential medical equipment and supplies they need in the comfort of their lives. You will be responsible for assessing patients' needs, recommending appropriate equipment, educating them on usage, and ensuring the seamless delivery and setup of equipment. This role requires a strong commitment to customer service, attention to detail, and a compassionate approach to patient care.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Responsible for verifying insurance eligibility, obtaining benefits, and checking active coverage for DME.
- Properly fitting and informing patients of durable medical equipment instruction of electrical breast pumps, compression socks, and pregnancy baby bands and all other DME products dispensed at MacArthur Medical Center/OBGYN.
- Provides education and care to patients on all DME items.
- Insures that all necessary documentation is obtained as it relates to payer requirements, standard operating procedures, and our program.
- Complies with all Federal (HIPAA and OSHA) , State, and local laws and regulations.
- Obtains Certificate(s) of Medical Necessity forms and patient medical records as necessary for the billing department for processing of insurance claims.
- Completes and delivers appropriate documentation to billing department, following all necessary compliance and regulatory processes.
- Assists the DME Operations Manager in educating/training/in-servicing of Physicians, Physician Assistants, PT/OT Professionals, and clinical nursing staff with regard to all DME products and their application/fitting.
- Assists in inventory counts and metrics daily, weekly, monthly.
- Reviewing weekly reports and contacting patients at 24-Weeks of pregnancy for durable medical equipment. Setting a schedule day and time of pickup at one of our locations. Must stay in communication with patient and make follow up calls.
- Actively promotes and fosters good relations interdepartmentally and with physicians clinical and surgery center personnel, external case managers, payers, and suppliers. Tracks, maintains, and orders durable medical equipment (DME) products for the location including inventory and equipment.
- Handling of shipping and deliveries of equipment.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree in a related field (Bachelor's degree is a plus).
- Insurance verification preferred.
- Previous experience in durable medical equipment or a similar healthcare role preferred.
- Strong customer service skills with a focus on empathy and compassion.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Knowledge of medical equipment and supplies, its usage, and maintenance.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to learn new systems.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment as needed.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 per hour
