The Clinical Pathology Scientist will engage in advanced sample processing, microbiology tasks, and equipment maintenance, with a strong emphasis on attention to detail, problem-solving, and communication skills. Key responsibilities include determining sample acceptability, processing blood, urine, and other specimens, and operating laboratory analyzers. The role involves performing preventive maintenance, notifying veterinary staff of significant results, and recording data in compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). Additional tasks involve reviewing study protocols, ensuring GLP compliance, preparing study books, managing sample manifests, packing samples for shipment, and performing refrigerator and freezer mapping qualifications. The scientist will also generate quality control data, conduct basic microbiological sample testing, and assist Study Directors with scientific guidance. Training and mentoring Clinical Pathology Technicians is a significant aspect of the role.
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline is required, with ASCP or AMT certification preferred, and a minimum of two years of medical laboratory experience. Strong communication skills and knowledge of GLP regulations are essential. The role involves working in a laboratory with exposure to potentially infectious materials and chemicals, requiring the use of personal protective equipment. The ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, is necessary.
