Job Summary
You will apply sound and prudent loan underwriting skills to applications for first mortgages, second mortgages, home equity lines of credit, autos, recreational vehicles, and personal loans utilizing credit union policies and guidelines to support the growth of a quality loan portfolio.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Utilizing our loan origination systems and your underwriting background you will be responsible for underwriting on a timely basis mortgage, consumer, and indirect loan applications. Reviews and evaluates application and related documentation to determine if borrower qualifies for a loan within pre-determined loan authority. Presents requests for approval for loans outside pre-set lending authority by stating case for making exceptions to loan policy.
Develops competence with Western Vista loan policies and guidelines that provide the basis for evaluating a loan application.
Decisions quickly with approval, denials, or counter-offers all consumer applications submitted that are not instantly approved.
Provides exceptional service with inhouse lending, loan processing, and other staff to facilitate smooth loan approvals, originations, and funding's.
Effectively and professionally communicates via phone and email with mortgage, auto, and RV, industry partners to respond to their requests, to discuss counter-offers, and other needs as they arise
Frequent interaction with supervisor and underwriting peers required to support process.
Supports other department duties including loan processing related activities.
For all denials, properly completes adverse action notices and all related and required loan denial documentation.
Preforms other job duties as assigned.
Flexibility with days and hours worked is required to accommodate unique underwriting demands of dealers and the Underwriting & Processing Department.
Performance Measurements:
To support meeting or exceeding operational objectives with respect to the company's underwriting needs to support the various loan department objectives, while maintaining prudent independence to keep credit quality at corporate standards.
Through prudent underwriting and high quality service, provide a reasonable SLA (Service Level Agreement) for mortgages, branches and dealer network.
Maintaining quality relationships with all dealers while adhering to the integrity of the underwriting process and loan policies is paramount. Develops competency with all applicable lending regulations to support compliant lending processes.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience
Five to ten years of similar or related experience. Experience with Meridian Link, Mortgage Builder, and Calyx loan operating systems; FHA Direct Endorsement (DE) and VA certification are required.
Education
(1) A bachelor's degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g. information technology certifications in lieu of a degree).

Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary.
Other Skills
Proficiency with loan underwriting (e.g, Meridian Link) and Core (e.g., Keystone) applications required.
