Information Technology Services (ITS) supports students, faculty, and staff through diverse technology implementations furthering the institutional mission and priorities. ITS provides hardware and software configuration and administration, technical and end-user support, process and business analysis, and data and integration services to help further the success of Highline’s students and employees.
The IT Infrastructure and System Administration department is responsible for the design, installation, operation, and support of all college network, telecommunications, and server infrastructure. This includes all networks; network security services; physical and virtual server infrastructure on premises and hosted in public or private cloud environments; storage; and backup and disaster recovery operations. This team is also primarily responsible for system administration, identity management, system integrations, and application development services.
Under close supervision, the CIS Lab Support Technician assists the IT Infrastructure and System Administration staff and CIS faculty in the daily operation, organization, and maintenance of the Computer Information Systems (CIS) lab classrooms. This position will perform routine clerical and maintenance tasks, and will provide in-person assistance to CIS program faculty and students in their use of lab facilities.
This position is responsible for representing Highline College in a professional manner and assists in maintaining an environment conducive to achieving educational goals. This position is assigned an alternate work schedule based on business and operational needs of the Department and the College, which requires flexible hours and may require working evenings and weekends as needed.
This is a part-time hourly non-permanent position (18 moths), working an average of 16 hours per week. This position reports to the Director of IT Infrastructure and System Administration.
The above salary reflects the starting step (Step A) Range 46 and ending step (Step M) salary for this position.
Organize storeroom
-
Clean, organize, track and surplus extra hardware.
Assist in setup and distribution of requested hardware and software classes
-
Provide access to approved lab software to faculty and students as needed;
-
Support the repository of system images used for classroom learning;
-
Provision lab hardware for students or instructors upon request.
Operate software to image and configure lab computers
-
Upload and deploy windows for the CIS labs (29-202, 203, and 205);
-
Maintain consistent computer Bios configurations in the labs.
Maintain lab computer images
-
Create class images for classes that do not install themselves.
-
Create a master image disk, apply updates each quarter with the required software;
-
Once an image is updated and edited for a specific class use Fog to upload to the server.
Distribute created images to multiple computers
-
Distribute and troubleshoot image deployments.
Run scheduled lab maintenance
-
Fix basic issues with lab computers or replace hardware when it fails. Re-image lab internal hard drives as needed. Reimage computers if the hard drive crashes during the quarter;

Provide updated software on CISBAS file share to ensure software versions are always up to date;
-
Update and provide maintenance on CISBAS servers and hardware regularly.
Virtual Infrastructure setup and maintenance
-
Communicate with all Instructors about VM inventory status;
-
Setup VM Deploy Script for each class;
-
Set up Linux and Windows Templates for lab deploy and class Use Deploy;
-
Create Script to Delete VM from Datastore for Current session VMs;
-
Update Pentest lab and snapshots and set Reserved DHCP in VYOS;
-
Set up new lab start snapshot and script for all VMs;
-
Manage BAS student structure and access in lab VMWare environment;
-
Remove all Completed BAS Students and CIS Students from the domain when class is completed;
-
Maintain current Vmware tools on all Infrastructure VMs in CIS labs.
Support Tasks
-
Create and configure new VyOs routers for use by classrooms, students or instructors;
-
Use deployment server to re-image faulty machines in the classroom, ready for student use;
-
Regularly examine lab computers for potential faulty hardware, and replace them;
-
Update all programs residing on the LabShare to ensure up-to-date software;
-
Create a new classroom image for the start of the quarter with the latest Windows iteration;
-
Install new software and document the process of installation and troubleshooting;
-
Respond to faculty support requests;
-
Unlock student lockers for students who forgot their combination;
-
DBAN old drives to ensure that they are wiped completely and are ready for re-issuing;
-
Update documentation so that information is correct, readable, and understandable;
-
When needed, provide support for other IT Infrastructure and System Administration projects.
COMPETENCIES

Excellent written and spoken communication skills;

Proficiency in office software tools: word processing, spreadsheet such as Excel;

Working knowledge of PC hardware and software installation and maintenance;

Working knowledge of VMWare administration and management;

Detail oriented with exceptional organizational skills;

Competency in working effectively with diverse populations.
