Summary
Ophthalmology office looking for a surgical scheduler/ front office receptionist for our busy downtown group practice (on Northwestern Hospital campus).Looking for an energetic individual who enjoys working with people. Friendly work environment, great benefits; experience in the ophthalmology field or past surgical scheduling experience is preferred.
Primarily responsible for scheduling ophthalmic surgeries at the local ambulatory surgery center and hospitals in accordance with the practice’s policies and procedures.
Experience, Education and Training Minimum: High school graduate or equivalent with 2-3 years of experience in the medical field. Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to interface with staff members and other facilities. Ability to coordinate multiple schedules based on individual preferences and guidelines of our four surgeons. Ability to utilize scheduling software and maintain updated schedules. Excellent telephone and computer skills required. Attention to detail is a must. Knowledge of medical/surgical office procedures, medical terminology ICD-10. Electronic medical records with EPIC experience is a plus.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Follow all current and future policies and procedures of the department.
- Schedule and maintain surgical schedules for all surgeons and communicate necessary changes.
- Coordinate all pre-operative/post-operative visits with patients.
- Contact the appropriate facility for scheduling of surgical procedures.
- Maintain and complete on time all necessary surgical paperwork.
- Have working knowledge of pre-operative testing to explain Intraocular Lens Types, and any surgical procedure related tests.
- Have knowledge of insurance requirements and prior authorizations.
- Communicate with patients with confidence that conveys understanding about their upcoming procedure.
- Copying, filing and scanning as necessary.
- Accurately prepares surgery folders
- Participate in duties interdepartmentally as deemed necessary, by a member of management and doctor(s).
- Provide assistance to other clinic personnel as needed.
