The Mother Brook Arts & Community Center (MBACC) is seeking a new full-time Executive Director with excellent leadership, fundraising, relationship, and administrative skills. We are seeking a candidate who is innovative, strategic, solution-oriented, collaborative and inspired by the mission of MBACC to build a vibrant and sustainable center that enriches the Dedham community and stimulates the revitalization and growth of the Mother Brook neighborhood.
Position Overview
The Executive Director is responsible to lead Mother Brook Arts & Community Center (MBACC) as a fully utilized property in Dedham, functioning as a service to the town and for the benefit of local and regional artists and residents. The Executive Director provides the leadership, inspiration, and strategic direction to enable MBACC to achieve its annual and long-term goals for artistic excellence, financial sustainability and community engagement. The Executive Director is responsible and accountable for all aspects of the center, including artistic, operational, education and community programming; financial management; artist relations; center development; human resources; and fundraising.
The Executive Director is responsible for the creation and successful execution of multi-year development plans in support of MBACC, its mission and strategic goals. These plans will encompass the multiple approaches to development: space rentals, public and corporate grants, major gifts, special events and capital campaigns. The Executive Director will also provide leadership, vision and direction to MBACC by operating as the organizational representative to the town, media, in community settings and fundraising.
The ideal candidate has five to ten years of experience in the development field, ideally in the arts; a proven record of fundraising; excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to manage multiple projects; experience interfacing with diverse audiences; diplomacy skills; and a passion for education and the arts.
Responsibilities
1) Leadership and Board Relations
· Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop and promote a long-term vision, strategy and goals for MBACC in the life of Dedham and regional residents.
· Maintain collaborative working relationships and clear and transparent communication between the staff and Board.
· Communicate clearly with the Board Chair and Executive Committee.
· Work closely with the Board to develop and implement transformational fundraising campaigns.
· In collaboration with the Board Chair, develop agendas, reports and analysis for Board of Director and Advisory Board meetings.
2) Community Engagement
· Act as liaison to government officials and agencies, and as the public representative for MBACC in the Dedham/Greater Boston community and with media.
· Engage political, non-profit, cultural, funding and neighboring establishment leaders to create lasting and beneficial partnerships.
· Cultivate relationships with major individuals, foundation and corporate donors and develop strategies to effectively pursue grant opportunities.
· Oversee PR and Marketing efforts. Develop marketing strategies and tools to promote utilization of the East End Theater, class participation and art shows in the center, leveraging the website, social media, e-blasts, etc.
· Create compelling facility information for prospective artists and clients of the center.
· Solicit corporations, schools, community groups, professional associations and businesses for production and use of the facilities.
3) Fundraising and Fiscal Management
· In partnership with, and oversight of the Board of Directors, create and execute short- and long-term fundraising plans and pursue new funding/revenue streams.
· Oversee the day-to-day financial operation of MBACC, including budget creation and implementation, and the management of cash flow, AP and AR and expense monitoring.
· Assist with annual audits and ensure that MBACC stays current with all fiscal reporting requirements and filings.
· Maintain consistent communication with the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors on all fiscal developments.
· Responsible for proper management of earmarked and restricted funds, ensuring the successful execution of approved plans and programs.
· Cultivate relationships to aid in the pursuit of opportunities for major gifts, corporate and foundation donations.
4) Studio and Event Management
· Engage with and develop effective working relationships with resident artists and the broader art community in the greater Boston area.
· Develop and manage a plan for use of the East End Theater, to expand the diversity and reach of events and programs.
· Work with program directors (ceramics and metal) to create compelling classes and programs for the community, which enhance the image of the center and drive revenue.
5) Operations and Center Oversight
· Develop a consistent pricing architecture and fee schedule for studio rentals and events at MBACC.
· Ensure the safety and upkeep of the center by coordinating general maintenance, repairs, supply orders and the management of capital projects.
· Provide clear statements of work and monitor budgets and progress of all facility and capital improvements.
· Coordinate with local municipality for necessary event permitting, signage placement, etc.
· Maintain and develop and network of volunteers to assist with facility needs and events.
· Establish a culture of excellence and continuous learning to ensure MBACC remains relevant in the community today and into the future.
· Ensure Employment Law compliance with center employees and contractors.
Job Qualifications
· Passion for the arts and its impact on the community.
· Bachelors or Master’s Degree in business, public administration, non-profit management, or related field.
· Strong background in arts, design, humanities, education, event planning and/or organizational leadership.
· A minimum of five years of experience with a proven track record in strategic planning and development, financial management, project and policy development.
· Experience with regulations and standards governing non-profit organizations.
· Excellent time management skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and independently.
· Demonstrated success in leadership roles developing innovative, audience-appropriate exhibits and strategies.
· Extensive experience administering budgets, managing project records, reports and documentation.
Terms of Employment
· Commitment to working on-site.
· Full-time Exempt Position (40+ hours per week).
· Additional hours required for after-hours meetings, MBACC sponsored events, weekend events, etc.
Compensation
- Salary $80,000-$120,000, based on experience
- Generous vacation, personal time, and paid holidays
