JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Part-Time Circulation Clerk
Department: Circulation

Salary Range: $12-$15.85
Summary Compiles records, issues and receives library materials, sorts and routes materials by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Scans identifying data, desensitizes/resensitizes, and adds due/return date to issue/discharge materials to/from patrons.
· Renews materials according to established policy.
· Inspects returned materials for damage and completeness and cleans them as appropriate.
· Sorts materials according to classification code for reshelving.
· Reshelves materials in all collection areas.
· Assists with shelf reading as assigned.
· Routes materials for repair, interlibrary loan or reserve as appropriate.
· Computes and receives overdue fines and lost and damaged book payments.
· Issues borrower's identification cards according to established procedures.
· Assists with promotion of library programs, resources and services.
· Assists patrons with reader’s advisory.
· Assists patrons with inquiries of a general nature, including directional questions and identification of holdings by author, title and call number.
· Identifies reference queries and refers them to the Reference staff.
· Identifies all other queries and refers them to the appropriate staff.
· Receives interlibrary loan, reserve and hold requests.
· Assists patrons with all other services provided through the Circulation Desk, including but not limited to copying, faxing, scanning, and voter registration.
· Assists with the clerical tasks of the Circulation Department including but not limited to sorting, filing, copying, etc.
· Assists at other public service desks as assigned.
· Assists with special and ongoing projects as assigned by immediate supervisor and/or administrative staff including but not limited to expired patrons accounts, expired children’s accounts, patron updates, and data tracking.
· Assist with searching projects such as that for overdue notifications, inventory, etc.
· Assists with curbside delivery service including but not limited to receiving orders and delivering completed orders to vehicles, tracking usage, etc.
· Assists with Reserves and Interlibrary Loan services as needed
· Assists with grant projects and data collection as assigned
· Assists with mailing and shredding projects
· Assists with displays and special event projects
· Maintains a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that facilitates positive professional relationships with patrons, co-workers and management.
· Provides accurate, efficient and courteous service to all customers

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of basic computer operation, including use of a mouse. Database experience, including library automation systems desirable.
Other Skills and Abilities
Ability to speak some Spanish desirable.
