Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, founded in 1967, is the nation’s first community development corporation nestled in the heart of Central Brooklyn in Bed-Stuy. Located at Restoration Plaza, a 300,000 square foot commercial complex that offers a mix of retail, dining, recreation and entertainment, this historic organization is steeped in its mission to close the racial wealth gap. We provide direct services across an economic mobility platform centered on workforce development, affordable housing/homeownership, community revitalization, small business development and arts and culture to 60,000 people annually.
Restoration seeks an individual who will lead the Financial counselors team, which plays an instrumental role in advancing the organization’s strategic goal of disrupting the racial wealth divide. This position requires someone with vision and initiative to manage a portfolio of programs and partnerships that will enable the residents of central Brooklyn to build assets, financial security and intergenerational wealth. To this end, the Manager of Financial Counseling Programs includes oversight of both the Financial Empowerment Program and Family Self-Sufficiency Program, and other innovations to advance Restoration’s strategic goal. This position requires someone who can creatively collaborate with all other departments and mobilize the team and co-workers to achieve and exceed the organization’s vision.
Key Responsibilities

Recruit, mentor and lead a team of financial inclusion professionals which include financial coaches/counselors and/or volunteers and interns.

Innovate and scale strategies that support communities and families to improve their financial health.

Develop and manage partnerships to facilitate goals and objectives.

Manage a team of financial counselors responsible for implementing the Office of Financial Empowerment (OFE) programs, including the Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) and Workforce I. Other programs include, but not limited to, Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) and the Foundation for Financial Planning Programs.

Implement systems and indicators to track and monitor client goals, staff performance and overall program and contract progress.

Participate in initial funder sponsored training and ongoing professional development training as required.

Serve as a key organizational ambassador representing the Center for Personal Financial Health and its financial inclusion focus.

Responsible for interviewing, hiring, on-boarding, training, coaching and evaluating staff.

Administrative responsibilities like processing invoices, timesheets, check requests and/or supply orders.

Assist with the preparation of verbal, written, and visual presentations to stakeholders.

Attend stakeholder meetings, as needed, and serve as a representative for the department & corporation to increase agency awareness and collaborative opportunities.

Continuously search for and identify innovative tools, programs and partnerships to strategically advance the Outreach and Financial counseling programs’ goals and priorities.

Collaborate with the Assistant Directors, Directors and Executive Vice-President of the Center for Personal Financial Health to achieve Restoration’s goal to disrupt the racial wealth divide.

Coordinate outreach activities to facilitate program introductions and workshops. Manage host site partnerships, and develop new partnerships while maintaining existing ones.

Submit monthly program reports, and other scheduled reports to funders.

Some evening and weekend hours will be required on a limited basis.

What you bring to the role-QUALIFICATIONS:

Five plus years of experience in the Financial Empowerment Space or other related experience.

Capacity to multitask with attention to detail, take initiative and manage to deadlines with little supervision.

Skilled at forging new partnerships.

Knowledgeable of recent advances in the financial inclusion field.

Strong writing skills, able to craft fundraising proposals and reports.

Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; Master’s degree preferred.

Passion for helping low-income adults meet their financial goals.

Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
