The purpose of this position is to provide overall engineering support to the City for all types of construction including inspections of rights of way, street opening and ongoing construction projects. The work is performed under the direction of the City Engineer.
Conducts construction inspections on all openings within City streets, sidewalks, driveways, and alleys. Tracks permitting fees for right of way openings for utility companies and commercial developments.
Performs sidewalk and driveway inspections.
Performs concrete testing for various construction projects.
AssistsinthecoordinationofCityconstructionandmaintenanceprojects
Assists in organization of engineering drawings and files.
Basic survey, measurements, and sketches for the purpose of developing construction plans for sidewalk and street repairs.
Performs erosion control inspections on commercial and residential construction projects, completes inspections on storm sewer outlets.
Reviews miscellaneous documents and assists other departments such as Planning and Inspections. Responds to requests and concerns of staff, other departments, consultants, and general public
Additional Tasks and Responsibilities
Associates degree or a minimum of two years of road, sewer, or concrete construction experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. Experience or knowledge of sanitary and storm sewer, concrete, sidewalk, and road construction preferred.
Requires ability to gather information and sufficiently convey data and conditions to supervisor verbally and in writing.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing with the City Engineer, and all department personnel, other City departments, City Council and Manager, and the public.
Requires the ability to organize documents and information in a way that can be understood by all.
Requires the ability to perform moderately complex algebraic operations; proficiency in calculating complex areas, addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.
Requires expertise in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel. Ability to learn other computer programs.
Requires the ability to gather all relevant information to a project or problem.
Requires the ability to apply principles of logic involving inspections.
Requires the ability to operate, calibrate, tune and synchronize, and perform complex rapid adjustment on equipment, machinery and tools such as a computer and other office machines, concrete testing equipment, surveying equipment, printer/plotter, drafting instruments, hand tools, and/or related materials used in performing essential functions.
Requires the ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet, and limbs in performing coordinated movements such as typing.
Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate but not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling objects and materials of moderate weight, twelve to twenty pounds.
Requires ability to traverse difficult and un-even terrain, such as hillsides and creek beds.
Requires the ability to recognize and identify degrees of similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, shapes, sounds, and textures associated with job-related objects, materials, and tasks.
Environmental Adaptability
Ability to work under conditions that require exposure to environmental factors. This exposure may cause some discomfort and presents a risk of injury.
This position requires a significant amount of outdoor work, year-round in a variety of weather conditions.
