The Senior Editorial Specialist is responsible for researching, writing, and editing a variety of written communication and deliverables including – but not limited to – promotional, marketing and website materials, web stories, publications, social media copy, talking points, and other communication pieces to recruit, enroll and retain prospective students, and engage current students and alumni. This individual will also focus on developing accurate, engaging, and persuasive content that is appropriate to university goals, selected medium and target audience.
Essential Functions
Develops and writes compelling marketing copy to publicize the University, its programs, activities, faculty, students, staff and alumni, including advertising copy, website text, video scripts, postcards, brochures, talking points, video on-screen text, digital marquees, social media posts, and other written content.
On occasion, may be called to write press releases, news and feature stories, speeches, op-eds and other communication pieces.
Actively seeks out and develops UTEP stories of students, faculty, staff and alumni that can be used to convey one or more of the University’s strategic messages through various mediums.
Builds and maintains strategic relationships with University and community stakeholders.
Understands University strategic messaging and incorporates those messages across all communication channels.
Ensures all content is accurate and meets the standards of editorial style set by the division in the Editorial Style Guide.
Works collaboratively with the creative team in the development of visuals to accompany written content, including photos, videos, graphics and animations.
Edits written content produced by division colleagues for accuracy, clarity, spelling, grammar and tone, to eliminate errors, and to ensure it conforms to the University’s editorial style and strategic messages.
Incorporates feedback and analysis of marketing campaign results to improve content effectiveness.
Stays abreast of trends and new ideas in marketing communications to keep the University at the leading edge when developing marketing content and strategy.
Provides editing and feedback of written marketing copy produced by other University units as requested.
Provides mentoring and coaching to other writers in the division.
Generally supports all efforts by the Marketing and Communications division, and other duties as assigned.
