Chief Purpose of the Position:
We are currently hiring for a Insurance & Billing Coordinator with a focus in Medical and Surgical billing. This position serves to coordinate medical and dental insurance processes for the practices of VCU Dental Care. This role helps manage the clinical support for all dental and surgical practices affiliated with the School of Dentistry with a strong focus on practices offering surgery, orofacial pain, and oral medicine services. You will post medical/dental charges, submits medical/dental claims, processes insurance EOBs (explanations of benefits) which includes allocating revenues to the proper patient and claim, following up on denied/underpaid/overpaid claims, and regularly addressing aged insurance balances. The coordinator will also address inquiries from patients, staff and faculty members regarding insurance coverage and payment. The coordinator will also processes pre-determinations and pre-authorizations, updates provider credentials, and manages the database of insurance companies within Axium.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- A comprehensive understanding of medical terminology is required, dental and oral surgery strongly preferred.
- Excellent quantitative reasoning skills required
- This position requires proficiency in Windows-based computing, including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience using electronic health records (preferably Epic or axiUm) required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
Education Level and Experience Required:
- Minimum of 3 years of working experience in a dental office environment (preferably in an oral and facial surgery practice)
- Excellent customer service skills and problem-solving ability
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Associate or Bachelors’ degree preferred
- CPC certification preferred
- Must be able and willing to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
Hiring Range: commensurate with experience
