General Statement of Duties
Serves as a semi tractor trailer operator to haul waste from the Bennett Mountain transfer station to semi tractor trailer to haul waste from the Bennet Mountain Transfer Station to other waste collection facilities. This work is performed under the supervision of the landfill supervisor. An employee in this position is expected to perform their duties in a respectful and courteous manner, operating their assigned vehicle in a professional, safe, and responsible fashion.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This position will operate a 53 ft. semi-tractor trailer.

This work involves working in all types of weather conditions, under hazardous conditions, on congested highways, around operating equipment and in a noisy environment.

Frequent travel to and from the work site.

Complete route/productivity sheets and other reports in a timely fashion as required.

Continuously monitor the condition of the vehicle to ensure that it is clean, operational and ready to use at all times.
Other Duties and Responsibilities

Conduct pre-trip checks to ensure that oil, fluids, and tires are in safe operational condition.

Immediately report any vehicle operating concerns to supervision to maintain personal and public safety.

Follow all required safety policies and procedures.

Perform other job duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:

State and federal Department of Transportation rules and regulations.

Safe operating procedures for a semi tractor trailer.

County accident reporting policy procedures.

Motor vehicle operating guidelines, driving rules and procedures for operating a semi tractor trailer.
Ability to:

Conduct pre-trip checks to ensure that oil, fluids, and tires are in safe operational condition.

Read a map and use navigation programs and tools.
-
Read and understand traffic signs, laws, and street signs.

Monitor road and weather conditions to safely navigate the vehicle.
Acceptable Experience and Training
-
1-3 years’ experience operating semi tractor trailers over the road.
Special Qualifications
-
Must possess and maintain a Class A CDL.
-
Must be knowledgeable of state and federal Department of Transportation rules and regulations.

Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to communicate effectively with co-workers, customers, and operators at other facilities.

Additional Requirements

Position may be required to work irregular shifts, Saturdays, and holidays.

Must be able to pass a DOT physical.

Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug testing, and random drug and alcohol tests.

Must be able to pass a background check to include a DOT motor vehicle report review.
