About The Role
Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager
The Box Lunch Company Inc. located in South San Francisco is offering the position of Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager. The ideal candidate will help maintain and implement a full food safety plan including HACCP, PCQI, and GMP. The individual will be able to prepare for audits, oversee a quality assurance program, and create a food safety culture within our production, logistics and managerial team.
Core Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with the USDA, FDA, Food Defense and customer requirements for the facility.
- Act as company liaison to the USDA-FSIS and respond promptly to concerns or non-conformances.
· Serve as Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) coordinator and Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) for the food production facility.
· Perform program and HACCP reassessments as needed, and at least annually.
· Develop and maintain food safety documents and quality management related programs, including record keeping related to food safety.
- Owner of the following programs to ensure effectiveness of monitoring and verifications: Daily and Monthly GMP tracking, Internal audits, Environmental Monitoring, Allergen Control program, Sanitation Program, Traceability, Ingredients and Raw Materials receiving protocols, and record keeping (this is not an exhaustive list).
- Develop, monitor and execute quality training programs.
- Training of all production personnel on GMP practices, HACCP principles and food safety basics.
- Participates in conducting regular mock recalls to test the effectiveness of the program at least annually with the recall team.
- Lead Root Cause Analysis and CAPA program; and initiate continuous improvement projects.
- Assists in maintaining ingredient and packaging material documentation including current specifications, Letters of Guarantee and approving suppliers as required.
- Manages the pest control program in conjunction with contracted pest management services and ensures that prompt corrective actions are taken to address pest-related observations.
- Participate in and lead food safety/quality meetings and discussions, with an emphasis on results, solutions, continuous improvement, and forward progress.
- Troubleshoot problem-causing delays where a high level of technical expertise and capability are required.
- Ensure that all product specifications, labels and standards set forth by management and customers are followed, and that any deviations from set specifications are corrected and updated appropriately.
· Provide oversight for the identification and mitigation of hazards in the implementation of the food safety plan, review of records, and reassessment of food safety plans.
· In charge of managing and using the Opportunity to Excel (OTE) in-house system to act upon identified areas of opportunity, moreover, information and trends are used to avoid recurrence.
Skills & Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
Basic Qualifications are objective, non-comparative, and relevant requirements essential to performing a role anywhere in the company. Examples include minimum educational requirement or specific degrees, certifications, minimum number of years of experience in a similar role with similar scope or level of responsibility, experience with core technology tools or platforms such as Microsoft Office, equivalent military experience, etc.
· Education: Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biological Sciences, or related field.
· Equipment/Software Skills: Advanced Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote) experience, ERP software preferred, Basic computer skills and knowledge.
· Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: PCQI Certification, HACCP certified.
· Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift to 50 lbs.
· Language Requirements: English (Mandatory). Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Experience
· Experience with Food Safety and Quality Assurance.
· HACCP and/or PCQI experience.
· Leading all audits (Customer, Regulatory).
· Supervisory and Leadership.
· Knowledge and experience in FDA and USDA regulations and labeling.
· Experience in a quality assurance role within the food industry.

Salary and Benefits
- Compensation: $50.50 per hour to be paid bi-weekly
