GROUNDS MAINTENANCE WORKER
Inspect buildings, heating and lighting systems, fixtures and other related areas to anticipate future
problems and report to supervisor. Perform preventative maintenance activities such as assisting
others to replace belts, filters and related maintenance tasks as directed by supervisor.
Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within scope of knowledge
or refer to employee of higher classification.
Qualifications
Requires knowledge of the field of assignment sufficient to perform thoroughly and accurately the
full scope of responsibility as illustrated by examples in the above job description.
Requires experience as a building and grounds maintenance worker. Requires knowledge of the use
and ability to operate a variety of hand tools and equipment used in the building and grounds
maintenance field. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Working
knowledge of safety hazards and procedures; cognizance of public safety matters. Requires physical
ability for continuous physical effort including frequent bending, climbing, squatting, manipulation
of and lifting of equipment and supplies. Also requires ability to work outdoors in all types of weather
conditions. Requires ability to set priorities and accomplish work activities under indirect
supervision. Requires flexibility of work hours due to weather related temperatures.
Special Requirements
Possession of a valid Washington State Driver's License.

Physical Demands and Environment
The working environment for Building and Grounds Maintenance Worker is primarily in the field.
The duties require working in all types of weather and extreme temperature conditions. Requires
walking on various types of surfaces including rough terrain, sitting, standing, ability to maintain
balance, climb stairs, ladders and inclines, ability to kneel, bend, stoop, crouch, reach, push, pull,
twist; requires a sense of touch, finger dexterity, gripping with fingers and hands, shoveling, digging,
lifting and carrying 50 pounds; ability to operate passenger vehicles, and construction equipment;
work at heights, alone and in remote areas; exposure to direct sunlight, outside temperature extremes,
chemicals, liquid and epoxy chemicals, solvents and oils, exposure to noxious weeds and plants, dust,
pollens, insect stings. Ability to hear voice conversations and alarms. Requires far, side, night, color
vision, with depth perception. Requires wearing of hard hats, safety glasses or goggles, ear plugs or
muffs, respirators, rubber or plastic gloves, safety shoes and rubber boots.
