The Behavior Health Tech (BHT) functions as an active part of the treatment team, providing continuous patient care, including supervising and overseeing outdoor smoke breaks during this time, supervision, interaction, and role modeling to patients ranging in age from preschool through adult depending on which unit worked. BHT's work under the general direction of a Registered Nurse.
Requirements
Education: High School Degree or equivalent required; Certified Nursing Assistant preferred; Degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, recreational therapy or appropriate therapeutic discipline preferred.
Experience: Previous related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques and understanding of mental illness preferred.
Additional Requirements: Successful completion of CPR Certification and successful completion of crisis intervention prevention provided during new employee orientation and prior to assisting with restraint procedures. Must also complete Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) training (both clinical practicum and classroom) as required per Missouri Hospital Licensure regulation 19 CSP 30-20.125. May be required to work flexible and overtime hours.
SKILLS:
- Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures, sterile techniques, and medical terminology.
