Special Ed Paraeducators Needed
Oyster River Cooperative School District is seeking Special Ed Paraeducators to fill immediate openings at all levels.
These are full-time positions at 6.5 hours per day, 32.5 hours per week.
Benefits associated with the Paraeducator positions are:
- Competitive 14-step wage scale, starting at $15.65 for those with no experience, to $23.04 for those with 13+ years of experience
- Additional $.50 per hour for an AA, and $1 per hour for BA and higher, in a related area

Special Ed Paraeducator Job Description
Title: Special Education Paraprofessional
Qualifications: Has the ability and willingness to work as a team member with regular and special
education staff to support students. Demonstrates skills and knowledge required to
work with students at the appropriate developmental levels.
Reports To: Assigned Special Educator under the supervision of the Special Coordinator.
Job Goal: To support the provision of appropriate special education to all students in the least
restrictive environment, to include transitional and non- academic environments.
Performance Responsibilities:
- The paraprofessional will meet the expectations for professional attitude and conduct within the school district
- Communication: The paraprofessional will be aware of the components of effective communication, identify communication challenges relevant to his or her role, apply problem solving strategies to communication challenges, and be able to use basic communication tools such as note taking, data collection and recording of assignments
- Provide individual and small group instruction, modify materials, and assist students in the various environments including the regular and special education classrooms as directed and supervised by the Special Educator
- Provide mainstream support to enhance student participation in classroom activities. This includes monitoring and directing attention to task, assisting with production/completion of assigned work, providing strategies to enhance comprehension, and other individualized activities that may be specified in the Individual Education Plan, such as speech/language or motor activities
- Provide behavior management support services to include: observation, charting behaviors, mediating conflict, reinforcing rules, maintaining physical proximity to student, teaching pro-social skills, and use of visual, social stories, behavior contract, and checklists
- Provide supervision, as required, to include: lunch and recess, hallway, field trip, therapy sessions, time-out, and in-school suspension
- Complete clerical tasks, as required, to include; copying, word procession, organizing, scheduling, ordering, preparing and cleaning up materials
- Provides support for activities of daily living skills (ADL’s) as required to include; feeding, dressing, toileting, mobility support, and health-related services in accordance with training provided
- Other duties as assigned.
