BETAH Associates is a professional services firm seeking two Senior Level Science Writer-Editors with expertise in forensics, life, physical sciences, or social and behavioral sciences.. This position is remote, however, may require travel to our Rockville office and client site to attend meetings and conferences.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The writers must have the ability to?
- Translate complex materials into plain language.
- Understand sophisticated scientific methods and the application of science to law enforcement issues.
- Write about the implications of the science for professionals who work in law enforcement or elected officials who make policies that affect criminal justice.
- The writer-editor must be able to use plain language to describe scientific findings that are published in peer-reviewed academic journals so that the methods and implications of the findings are conveyed clearly to executive-level leaders who may not have science backgrounds.
- The writer-editor will work closely with the client?s subject matter experts, including federal and contract staff. This will include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Attending staff meetings (virtually or in person).
- Interviewing subject matter experts.
- Working with subject matter experts in drafting, reviewing, and revising content.
- Attending agency workshops and presentations.
Minimum Experience:
- Bachelor Degree
- Five years of directly relevant work experience writing and editing publications and various documents.
- Five years of directly relevant supervisory or management experience involving frequent, high-level technical, and time-critical needs in the marketing, media, and public information service areas.
- Excellent writing skills required and knowledge of style guidelines
- Requires experience in managing projects with specific results and deadlines.
- Must demonstrate superior oral and writing skills as well as outstanding analytic and problem-solving abilities.
