Description
This position is responsible for assisting with weekly programs and special events for individuals with disabilities in the areas of: Arts & Crafts, Aquatics, Fitness, Drama, Dance, Music, Nature, Special Events & Special Olympics.
Examples of Duties

- Assist lead staff in recreational activities for specific programs.
- Assist participants in recreational group activities.
- Assist participants who may require one-on-one assistance.
- Must provide reliable transportation to all sites.
Typical Qualifications
- Previous experience in a recreational setting which involved direct leadership of individuals with disabilities.
- Supervision of individuals with disabilities, including behavior management and assisting with daily living skills (i.e. feeding, clothing assistance, transferring). Supervision of volunteers.
- Ability to adapt activities for various age and skill levels.
- Good communication skills & ability to work well with peers.
- Ability to lift-up to 50lbs and assist individuals who use a wheelchair- including lifting and transferring from chair-to-seat and pushing people in wheelchairs. Operate wheelchair lift operation and wheelchair tie-downs in City of Bloomington 15 passenger vehicle.
- Must demonstrate dependability, integrity, punctuality, flexibility & ability to problem solve.
- Knowledge and/or training in therapeutic recreation, recreation, special education, adapted P.E. or related field.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends.
