We are an adoptive family seeking compassionate individuals with a passion for patient care and experience working with children on activities of daily living (ADL's) while using their behavioral management skills to support to individuals in a naturalistic environment.
We live on a beautiful 28 acre ranch in Wimberley, Texas, with horses, cows, pigs, dogs, and cats. Our daily schedule is similar to a summer camp with lots of time outdoors. We rotate through various activities every 30 minutes. We are extremely organized. We have 3 children who still live at home who have disabilities and require help with activities of daily living (ADL's). This job is a hybrid crossover between in home caregiving with a camp counselor lifestyle where caregivers will use their behavior management skills to support the individuals in a naturalistic home environment, as well as in the community.
**Job Summary:**
As an in home direct support professional, you will work closely with individuals with developmental disabilities, helping the individuals with activities of daily living while using behavioral therapy techniques to promote positive behaviors and enhance their quality of life in a naturalistic home setting, as well as in the community. Your role will be as an in-home attendant/caregiver. You will not be employed as a behavior technician and you will not be implementing behavior plans. You will use your skills in behavior therapy to support the individuals as challenges arise in a naturalistic setting. You would be providing care along with a team of caregivers who work together to support 3 individuals in the home (all 3 are adopted and have special needs). Mom has a rare blood cancer that limits her ability to physically care for the children, so there are a minimum of two caregivers working at all times.
**Responsibilities:**
- Implement activities of daily living (bathing, grooming, exercising, etc.)
- Support individuals in a naturalistic setting to develop essential life skills and coping mechanisms
- Collaborate with a team of caregivers who collectively work to support the needs of each individual in the home
**Qualifications:**
- Experience working with children or individuals with developmental disabilities
- Knowledge of behavioral health principles and techniques
- Familiarity with special education practices
- Strong interpersonal skills for effectively working with individuals and their family
- Ability to demonstrate patience, empathy, and understanding in challenging situations
