THIS IS A GRANT-FUNDED POSITION
JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Research Technician 2 performs critical tasks and trains lab personnel necessary to achieve the goals of our NIH-funded research on the genetics of drug addiction in the Department of Pharmacology, Addiction Science and Toxicology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manages the breeding colony of rats.
- Selects breeding pairs and assists in the weaning of rats.
- Inserts RFIDs to identify each rat.
- Records all data in a relational database.
- Euthanizes rats and collects tissues.
- Maintains a tissue database.
- Assists in ongoing nicotine or oxycodone self-administration test.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or related sciences. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: OR a combination of college coursework and work experience to equal eight (8) years. (Experience working with rodents and survival surgery is preferred.)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of rodent breeding.
- Skill in data logging.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends.
