Title: Development Intern
Reports to: Director of Development and Marketing Position Type: Part Time 10-15 hours per week

C4 was founded in 1972 to help people released from psychiatric hospitals into the Uptown and Edgewater communities stabilize in the community. Since that time, C4’s service area has expanded to rekindle hope for individuals and families on Chicago’s north and west sides, remaining committed to community-level, system-focused interventions; C4 always seeks to avoid restrictive levels of care and maximize families’ agency to lead their recovery, allowing them to heal in their homes and community. C4 is the leader in building hope and breaking down barriers – from the personal to the systemic - for Chicago’s systematically disadvantaged communities through the delivery of effective, empirically supported, and trauma-informed mental health services. C4 seeks to equip 7,000 individuals annually to help them move from trauma to living, to working and thriving within their community.

Purpose: We are seeking an intern eager to learn the mechanics of nonprofit fundraising. The ideal candidate enjoys a dynamic working environment that utilizes a diverse skill set. This person should have the ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks efficiently. Additionally, strong writing skills and a passion for serving the community are essential.
Duties and Responsibilities
Database Management:
- Assist in maintaining the donor database, ensuring records of donors, prospects, and stakeholders are accurate and current.
- Input and update donor information, gift records, and communication history in the database.
- Generate reports and queries to aid in fundraising efforts, donor segmentation, and campaign
analysis.
- Perform regular data hygiene tasks, such as deduplication, data cleaning, and record standardization.
Writing and Content Creation:
- Create compelling content for fundraising appeals, donor communications, newsletters, and other marketing materials.
- Draft thank-you letters, acknowledgments, and personalized correspondence to donors and supporters.
- Develop impact stories, case studies, and testimonials highlighting the organization's achievements and impact.
- Collaborate with program staff to gather information and stories for donor-centric communications. Marketing and Communication:
- Assist in developing and executing marketing and communication strategies to engage donors and supporters.
- Help produce and distribute print and digital marketing materials, such as brochures, flyers, and email campaigns.
- Manage the organization’s social media accounts, posting updates, stories, and relevant content to engage followers and promote fundraising initiatives.
- Monitor and analyze the performance of marketing campaigns and digital communications, providing insights for optimization.
Event Support:
- Provide logistical and administrative support for fundraising events, including donor cultivation events, galas, and community outreach activities.
- Assist in event planning, coordination, and follow-up tasks, such as RSVP tracking, attendee communications, and post-event evaluations.
- Contribute to the development of event materials, invitations, and promotional collateral.
Competencies (Minimum Skills, Knowledge, and Experience):
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, nonprofit management, or a related field.
- Highly coachable with a strong desire to learn and grow within the nonprofit sector.
- Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to create compelling and persuasive content.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and
deadlines simultaneously.
- Familiarity with database management systems (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge) and the ability to
input, extract, and analyze data effectively is a plus.
- Experience with email marketing platforms, social media management tools, and basic graphic
design software is a plus.
- Experience using DSLR cameras for photo and video, video editing, and creating content for social
media is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with internal and
external stakeholders.
