Welders perform various welding operations in Wausau’s production environment to include tack and finish welding, as well as fitting and positioning weldments using fixtures and jigs where applicable.

A Welder for Wausau Equipment Company will:
- Maintain welding equipment and adjust equipment to prepare it to weld different parts or subassemblies.
- Perform simple and moderately complex welding operations following blueprint weld symbols with limited supervision.
- Move parts manually, by hoist or overhead crane and secure piece in weld fixture or table using clamps and wrenches.
- Maintain production quantities, efficiencies and quality on parts welded.
- Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straight edges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
- Prepare surfaces to be welded and work with blueprints to verify accuracy of pre-assembled metal components to be welded.
- Perform quality control inspections and clean welded components.
- Perform simple measurements using devices or gauges to check work.
- Position or tighten braces, jacks, clamps, cable slings, or bolt parts in position for welding or riveting. Also perform rework, if necessary.
- Research new welding techniques, procedures, and equipment, and make recommendations.
- Record work order information and inventory transactions.
- Be assigned additional responsibilities as necessary to support the manufacturing and welding operations.
The ideal candidate will have/be:
- Knowledge of basic procedures of MIG welding.
- Knowledge and understanding of basic procedures of voltage and amperage for given requirements.
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
- Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternate conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Skilled in the operation of grinders and deburring equipment.
- Able to run 1/2-inch fillet welds.
- Able to perform standard measurements using a tape measure and other measurement devices.
- Able to accurately read and interpret blueprints with weld symbols and specifications.
- Ability to monitor/assess performance of yourself to make improvements or take corrective actions.
- Able to weld simple to complex assemblies with little supervision.
- Able to lift and position fabricated metal parts manually, using a hoist or forklift.
- Able to wear personal protective equipment.
- Ability to effectively communicate information to supervisors, peers and co-workers.
- Able to work overtime and/or including weekends as production schedules dictate.
Education and Experience:
1 – 5 years of previous welding experience in a metal manufacturing production environment is required. Welding Technology certificate or similar technical college education is preferred.
