JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Special Education Classroom and Special Education 1:1 Paraprofessional
CATEGORY: Classroom
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Supervising Teacher
BASIC FUNCTION Assist in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of special education students under the supervision of a certified teacher.
DUTIES
1. Assist with and reinforce instruction and related activities in a classroom or student’s assigned learning environment.
2. Assist in the preparation of instructional materials (does not include lesson plans) and in the implementation of individual education plans.
3. Assist students in the pool during swimming lessons under the supervision of a certified teacher, this may also include supervising the student while showering, dressing.
4. Monitor, observe and report student behavior and progress. Assist with management of behavior per classroom teacher’s instruction.
5. Consistently implement classroom management procedures. The paraprofessional may only implement hands-on intervention after training has been conducted. All interventions must be implemented in a manner consistent with training provided by District 129 certified staff.
6. Escort students to and from designated locations as assigned; accompany students to school related activities (such as lunch, recess, special classes) as assigned.
7. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others; confer with the teacher and other specialists concerning the needs of the student(s).
8. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
9. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Special Education Classroom and Special Education 1:1 Paraprofessional – Continued Page 2 Revised Fall 2017
10. Operate standard office and classroom equipment including a computer.
11. Perform a variety of clerical duties including keyboarding, filing and duplicating materials.
12. Follow health, safety, and blood-borne pathogen procedures.
13. Maintain records and prepare routine reports.
14. Perform additional assigned duties when the student does not require assistance or service.
15. Other duties related to the basic job function as may be assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma and one of the following:
a. Associate’s degree
b. Sixty (60) college hours
c. Passing score on state competency test

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.45 - $18.78 per hour
