Salary range: $110,000 - $180,000, commensurate with experience.

Position Overview:
The Principal of Open Mind School is responsible for providing visionary leadership and ensuring the effective operation of the school as a center for inclusive education. This role involves overseeing the development and implementation of policies, programs, and practices that promote an inclusive environment where all students, including those with diverse learning needs, feel valued and supported. The Principal is also responsible for fostering positive relationships with students, staff, families, and the wider community to enhance the school's reputation and promote its mission of inclusivity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Vision:
- Support and communicate a clear vision for inclusive education within the school.
- Lead and motivate staff to embrace inclusive practices and support the diverse needs of all students.
- Stay abreast of current research and best practices in inclusive education and incorporate them into school policies and programs.

- Instructional Leadership:
- Ensure that instructional practices are differentiated to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Support teachers in designing and implementing inclusive lesson plans and assessments.
- Monitor student progress and provide interventions as needed to ensure all students are achieving their full potential.

- Curriculum Development:
- Collaborate with teachers and specialists to develop a curriculum that is inclusive and meets the needs of all students.
- Ensure that curriculum materials and resources are accessible to all students, including those with disabilities or special needs.
- Guide the implementation of UDL principles throughout the curriculum and instructional practices, ensuring that learning experiences are accessible, engaging, and supportive of diverse learners. Collaborate with teachers and staff to design flexible learning environments that accommodate various learning styles, preferences, and abilities.

- Staff Development:
- Provide professional development opportunities for staff to enhance their understanding of inclusive practices and strategies.
- Support staff in implementing inclusive practices in their classrooms and provide feedback and coaching as needed.

- Community Engagement:
- Build positive relationships with families and community members to foster a sense of belonging and support for all students.
- Collaborate with community organizations and agencies to provide additional support services for students with diverse needs.

- School Culture and Climate:
- Create a positive and inclusive school culture where all students feel respected, valued, and safe.
- Address issues of bias, discrimination, and bullying to ensure a supportive environment for all students.

- Compliance and Accountability:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies related to inclusive education.
- Collect and analyze data to monitor the effectiveness of inclusive practices and make adjustments as needed.

- Promote a holistic approach to education that prioritizes the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of every student.
- Implement strategies to foster resilience, empathy, and self-awareness, creating a supportive community where students feel valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential.

- Experience in Therapeutic Transdisciplinary Models
- Experience collaborating with transdisciplinary teams. The role involves close collaboration with professionals from various disciplines such as SLPs, OTs, PTs, BCBA, and others as part of a cohesive team. The ability to communicate effectively, share expertise, and work collaboratively towards shared goals is essential.
- Familiarity with Interventions and Treatment Plans: The candidate should be well-versed in the development, implementation, and monitoring of interventions, goals, and treatment plans. This includes staying updated on the latest research, best practices, and evidence-based approaches within the field.
- Participation in Clinical Team Meetings: Actively participate in clinical team meetings to discuss progress, assess outcomes, and make necessary adjustments to treatment plans. This requires strong communication skills, critical thinking, and the ability to contribute constructively to team discussions.

- Ability to Translate Research into Practice:
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex research findings into practical applications for classroom instruction and educational programming.
- •The candidate should be adept at synthesizing research literature, identifying implications for teaching and learning, and implementing strategies to enhance student outcomes.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Education or related field (Doctorate preferred).
- Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and experience implementing UDL in educational settings.
- Familiarity with research-based practices in inquiry-based learning, child-led education, and transdisciplinary curriculum design.
- Experience leading transdisciplinary teams
- Experience with IEPs and CA ed law -desire someone with nonprofit management experience and start up / founding schools.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in education, with a focus on inclusive education.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Knowledge of laws and regulations related to inclusive education.
- Experience working with diverse populations and supporting students with additional support service needs.
Working Conditions:
- The Principal will work in a school environment, including classrooms, offices, and outdoor spaces.
- The position may require occasional evening or weekend work to attend meetings or events.
- The Principal will be the primary point of contact for staff and students onsite at the school on a daily basis.
