Galileo Preparatory Academy (GPA) is a non-traditional school with innovative elements such as project-based learning with real-world application, self-paced, mastery-based academic work, ample time for exploration of personal passions, Socratic discussions, apprenticeships, strong emphasis on social-emotional learning and fostering a growth mindset, and learner-centered, multi-age Studios.
The Guide will work in the Studio Monday through Friday, with additional hours outside of the school day as needed for planning, documenting, communicating with parents, and administrative tasks.
This position is for a Middle/ Upper School Lead Guide (Teacher) to support two studios that range in Grades 6-12. We are seeking a Guide who is eager to play a role in creating and shaping the direction of this new learning community. Lead Guides are expected to lead Socratic discussions each morning, inspire our learners to explore, be curious, and take ownership of their learning, monitor student progress on our self-paced curriculum, and facilitate group-based learning and projects in the sciences and social studies. Moreover, the Guide will help move learners on a journey to understand and develop their most precious gifts, discover their deepest passions, and explore how to use these passions to serve others in a meaningful way that brings them joy. We believe our learners will go on to change the world in a profound way.
Position Description:
The Guide will work with GPA administration to:
- Affirm students, holding them accountable to their promises and to deliver their best work.
- Launch and lead Socratic discussions.
- Facilitate group-based learning and projects in the sciences and social studies using prepared curricula
- Set up and maintain the learning studio in a way that inspires learning.
- Advise, observe, and track each child’s progress in their independent academic work in reading, writing, and math.
- Encourage young learners to track their progress and create portfolios to show parents, peers and apprenticeship employers what they can do.
- Provide meaningful academic feedback, primarily for writing and project-based work. We utilize written and oral feedback rather than giving letter grades to indicate quality of work.
- Communicate with parents as needed.
- Offer children as much autonomy as possible while ensuring a culture of kindness, safety, and diligence.
- Thoughtfully observe each child as an individual and the group as a whole to help inspire them along their personal and group journey.
- Complete onboarding training as directed by our administrative staff.
- Embody a growth mindset and incorporate it into all aspects of the program including the Guide’s own personal development.
Qualifications:
- Innovative and entrepreneurial spirit required
- Bachelors degree
- A deep curiosity about life and love of lifelong learning
- Prior experience working with/teaching adolescents
- Project-based and/or experiential learning training is helpful
- Proven excellence in written and oral communication skills

There will be an onboarding training period as directed by our administrative staff.
GPA’s program is year-round.
This position is salaried.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
