Oliver Winery, a Best Places to Work in Indiana award winner, is seeking a Quality Control Specialist to join our team!
The Quality Control Specialist will work under the direction of Senior Winemaking to focus on bottling, packaging material, and post-bottling quality controls. This is a quality control position consisting of routine analysis with a focus on overall quality at bottling. As the QC specialist, this position is responsible for the timely completion of analysis, quality control of the final product, and record keeping. This position will work closely with and monitor bottling to maintain and ensure the highest quality finished product. Attention to detail, ability to follow procedure, and desire for accuracy and precision is critical to the success of this position. All aspects of this position support the assurance of making world class wines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Bottling Quality Control: Bottling line inspections and testing including, fill levels, label application, capsule application, dissolved oxygen and closure application.
- Packaging Goods Quality Control on all incoming goods (labels, closures, bottles, etc.)
- Works closely with Bottling Department to ensure the highest quality product
- Works with Enologist to ensure wine is ready for bottling, including wine temperature, dissolved O2/CO2 and FSO2
- Records and reports all quality concerns and analysis to Senior Winemaking in a timely manner.
- Maintains and updates bottling QC sheets as directed by Senior Winemaking
- Prepares daily bottling QC station, QC check sheets, and work order
- Maintains updated BOMs, quality sheets, and specification sheets
- Assists in quality hold management, analysis, and recommendations.
- Completes daily ATP swabbing to ensure proper sanitation prior to bottling
- Works with Winemaking Department to improve cellar sanitation, performing sanitation checks and ATP swabbing
- Responsible for the organization of all bottling QC sheets and records.
- Tracks packaging goods supplies to ensure FIFO management of materials.
- Recommends process changes to improve efficiency and quality.
- Works with Senior Winemaking in the development and maintenance of quality and food safety programs, including GMP, HACCP
- Investigates and documents all packaging goods issues and communicates with suppliers’ concerns
- Maintains SDS records for all winemaking ingredients and supplies
- Coordinates with Senior Winemaking and Enologist to onboard, maintain, and troubleshoot all quality testing equipment for bottling.
- Wine Quality Control: Conducts routine analysis of wine as directed, including titrations, density, pH measurement, dissolved oxygen, tank inspections and process inspections.
- Assists in training new employees as directed by Senior Winemaking.
- In coordination with Enologist, responsible for the cleanliness and 5s organization of analytical and sensory labs.
- Records data for analysis into database.
- Additional duties, as assigned by Senior Winemaking.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, food science, or related science, or other equivalent experience.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment with a focus on quality, preferably in a food or beverage industry
- Understanding of Quality Program components such as AQL, Root Cause Analysis, Classification of Defects, HACCP, GMP, Process Control, etc.
- An interest in wine.
- Ability to observe and distinguish subtle differences in data, color, aroma, etc.
- Due to the nature of our business, must be over 21 years of age.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: This is a physical job in a winery/production setting that will require long periods of standing, walking, lifting, climbing ladders. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision.
