Description:
The Online Advisor will serve as the primary contact for the online student population at Sterling College. They will connect with students, arrange schedules, provide orientation, and coordinate degree completion plans. This full -time position will offer some opportunity to work remotely; however, there will be some in-office time requirements.
Qualifications:
A qualified candidate must have a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and support the Christian character and mission of Sterling College. The candidate must also possess a clear understanding of and ability to articulate the essentials of a Christian liberal arts college.
- The ability to communicate effectively in an online environment.
- Must possess strong computer skills and the flexibility to respond to student requests in a timely manner.
- Must possess strong customer service and be detail oriented.
- Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel programs and the ability to learn Jenzabar SIS.
Responsibilities*:
- Oversee the organization and data entry of transcripts for online students and follow through with the enrollment process.
- Serve as an academic advisor for online programs.
- Assist in management of shared email accounts and website chat feature.
- Clearly communicates academic standards and create a plan for students to complete their degree online.
- Provide an Initial Transfer Evaluation for prospective students and work with Office of Enrollment Services for a smooth transition into the online programs.
- Coordinate efforts with the Office of Enrollment Services to set goals and build successful partnerships to grow the online student body.
- Strive to be up-to-date with online education trends and explore ways to bolster programs and provide additional support for online students; candidate must also stay current on best practices in academic advising
- The ability to work a flexible schedule to communicate with students in the evenings is required.
- Reports to the Registrar and will assist in office duties as assigned.
Essential Job Functions:
- Must be able walk up and down stairs.
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
- Be able to coordinate movement of the fingers and hands as well as have the adequate dexterity and strength to complete tasks.
- Be able to work on a computer and use a 10 key, copier, printer, and phone.
- Must be able to push, pull, and lift up to a minimum of 25 pounds.
- Frequently bend body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
- Be able to stand and move about regularly.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred. Associate’s degree minimum requirement.
- Previous advising experience preferred.
- Previous office experience/minimum of 1 year
