Hiram W. Davis Medical Center is one of 12 inpatient facilities operated by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services.
Hiram W. Davis Medical Center, located in Petersburg, Virginia, is a 94-bed medical facility providing acute medical diagnoses, skilled care, intermediate care, and long-term care to individuals receiving services in DBHDS facilities and within the community that have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Admissions to HWDMC are generally either permanent placement or special hospitalization. Patients typically come to HWDMC as a special hospitalization for step-down to stabilize, post-surgery rehabilitation, or long-term care.
The LPN Nurse Educator will work under the supervision of the RN Nurse Educator to fulfill the newly implemented continued nursing competency regulations by the Virginia Board of Nursing for Licensed Practical Nurses and Certified Nurse Aides. This position is responsible for conducting workshops, seminars and training relevant to the practice of nursing. Serves as a Nurse Educator providing coordination in all clinical training activities. Responsible for organizing and maintaining all clinical training materials including paper materials, video tapes, DVDs, manikins, training data and supplies.
Some of the duties within the role include but are not limited to:
A. Plan, implement, and evaluate teaching of all Mandatory Classes as assigned.
B. Conducts and completes all RN and LPN competency checklists during class orientation period and annually. Submits completed RN/LPN checklists to the Nursing Administration Office.
C. Responsible for facilitating, scheduling, teaching relevant topics to new employees in orientation.
D. Works collaboratively with Director of Quality Management & Training and employee supervisors to insure accurate completion and submission of new employee orientation checklist, competency and mandatory training sign- in sheets.
E. Determines which staff are delinquent in attending trainings; maintains and submits compliance reports to Director of Quality Management & Training in a timely manner
F. Timely, clear, organized, accurate, training data entry and training record maintenance
G. Provide classroom training as based on the learning needs of the staff, and mission, vision, and goals of the hospital.
H. Responsible to be site administrator for the Knowledge Center, the DBHDS learning management system.
I. Responsible for communication to all departments about upcoming training and in-services. Will assist with departments in tracking and communicating delinquent employee’s mandatory training needs.
Minimum Qualifications
Licensed as a Practical Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia
Knowledge or experience to perform clinical skills training and documentation of certified nurse aides and other licensed practical nurses.
Ability to work the day or evening shifts based on training assignments.
Additional Considerations
Experience working in a behavior health, long-term care, skilled nursing or other facility, is preferred.
Experience working with patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities, is preferred.

This is a wage position and may not work more than 1500 hours between May 1 and April 30.
