WCNY is looking for a charismatic, passionate individual to serve as a Broadcast Coordinator for Radio Sation FM as well as Pulso Central, a new Spanish language audio initiative including a radio station, streaming service, app, podcasts, and website. The ideal candidate will honor the station’s 50+-year history of not only presenting relevant content but in building community around it.
Candidate will be fluent in English and Spanish, to the day-to-day operations of the radio station, including programming, scheduling, staffing, and budgeting, working closely with the FM Station colleagues across WCNY. Ensure that the station’s content meets audience preferences and regulatory standards while managing advertising sales and promotions to maximize revenue. This position requires awareness of Spanish audio programs and music. Candidate should also be knowledgeable about the Central New York and the Mohawk Valley Hispanic communities’ cultural scenes, as well as national and international current events and cultural landscape. Radio hosting experience is a plus, but not a requirement for this position.
This position works closely with members of our content production, engineering, marketing, underwriting, and accounting departments to drive sales on a growing portfolio of multi-platform media.
Incorporate best practices regarding confidentiality into all job duties and communications by WCNY policies and procedures and other applicable regulations.
- Establish a relationship with listeners by providing entertainment and/or information of interest consistent with format, genre, and targeted demographic audience.
- Coordinate with volunteer local content creators and local podcast producers to ensure content is on track, deadlines met, etc.
- Organize and maintain recording and on-air schedules, avoid scheduling conflicts, regularly communicate with program providers
- Greet hosts and guests when they arrive, get them situated and ready for recording
- Collaborate with station staff on show recording and editing. Engineer and edit programs as required
- Gather photos and other materials needed for web and social media posting. Coordinate with the Creative Services team
- Create all web posts for both original local programming and podcasts, distribute those to program participants for cross-promotion
- Write show intros/outros as needed, and/or advise volunteer hosts on proper scripting
- Coordinate and produce promos for air
- Manage program schedule, coordinating schedule changes as necessary to allow for airing of new or special content. Update schedules posted online and elsewhere
- Determine viability of any new programming ideas, implement as determined, negotiate terms with the provider
- Coordinate production elements for any new content, including graphics and music choices
- Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, and Membership teams to provide details of new programming
- Create on-air content as needed, IDs, teases, promos, and underwriting. Provide voiceovers as required
- Manage all aspects of special public service projects airing on the station(s)
- Push playlists to the automation system and adjust them as necessary to ensure all content is in place
- Create new automation templates and adjust program formats as needed to account for any new programs or schedule changes
- Represent the organization with a community-based task force charged with the creation of a Spanish station. Ensure the needs of the local Hispanic community are being met.
- Edit and ready for air and web posting all Pulso Central audio files, with coordination of and participation in studio engineering.
- Take guests/hosts' photos during each recording session for web posting graphics
- Create all necessary web and social media posts for Pulso Central, and distribute those to program participants
- for cross-promotion
- Prepare underwriting schedules, promotional plans, sales literature, proposals, and sales contracts for Pulso Central, using either self-designed content or that provided by team members
- Ensure compliance with FCC, CPB, and NPR editorial and funding guidelines.
- Perform other tasks, as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public communications, or equivalent desired.
- Or associate's degree or pertinent college-level courses and two years in radio operations, or media services management. Will consider an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of one year experience in media, education, or community service
- Must be fluent in both verbal and written Spanish
