Our full-time employees work 37.5 hours weekly.
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Mobile Crisis provides rapid response, assessment and early intervention to individuals experiencing a behavioral health crisis; work is performed under regular supervision. This mobile crisis responder will work with Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) to provide crisis screenings and referrals to students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Services are provided in real-time to the location of the individual experiencing a behavioral health crisis.
- Provides de-escalation and crisis intervention to students at OCPS.
- Works with students to identify short-term interventions to manage worsening of symptoms.
- Creates an immediate plan to maintain safety and communicates plan with parents and school.
- Provides coordination of care and linking to appropriate treatment services to meet the needs of the student.
- Provides follow-up contact within 2 business days following a crisis episode to students maintained in the school setting to check on referrals and identify further needs.
- Consults with crisis services to determine if an individual requires an emergency custody order (ECO) and obtains ECOs, as needed.
- Collaborates with OCPS on initiatives related to mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
- Participates in clinical, administrative, and supervisory meetings. Maintains administrative and clinical files, reports, spreadsheets, and correspondence.
- Complete trainings as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
General knowledge of the principles and practices of providing care to the emotionally disturbed, socially dysfunctional, behaviorally disordered, mentally ill and/or substance abusive clients and their families; general knowledge of the theories and evidenced based techniques of crisis intervention; ability to evaluate and de-escalate clients on scene; ability to prepare adequate records and to report findings and data effectively; ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, associates and the general public; knowledge of MS Office, to include Word and Excel.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Applicants for this position will be considered at different levels.
Minimum qualifications are Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP); crisis experience preferred, OR peer recovery specialist with at least one year of experience in substance use and mental health is required; crisis experience preferred; experience working with youth preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This job is classified as light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds of force frequently. Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, you must have the ability to do substantially all of these activities. Work requires fingering and repetitive motions. Verbal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communication.
Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of a motor vehicle, and determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work. These characteristics are representative of those an employee may encounter performing the essential functions of the job. The employee works with individuals with serious mental illness where a high degree of stress is possible. The position does not normally involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues; but it may require unplanned tasks where exposure may occur. The position requires the use of standard precautions.

Valid Virginia driver's license: attends training and maintains certifications as required by the Agency and regulatory guidelines.
