Position Overview:
5 years of Registered Nurse experience:
The Regional Director of Nursing is responsible for assessing all areas of a community, developing a strategy for improvement and following up with community leadership to ensure strategies are implemented. This position reports to the VP of Clinical. This position will be located in Lexington, KY.
Key Business Areas:
Morning Pointe has identified key business areas that will delineate the Regional Director of Nursing areas of responsibility. This position requires a Registered Nurse license. Obviously, not all aspects of the position’s roles and responsibilities can be incorporated in this list.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Function in multiple roles to include supervising, quality assurance, training and regulatory matters.
- Quality control for all aspects of operations including marketing, staffing, resident care and services, budgeting, safety, and building maintenance.
- Ensure operations are conducted in a manner consistent with value drivers and strategic initiatives to uphold and improve customer satisfaction, associate satisfaction, occupancy, culture, and operational effectiveness.
- Assist in the recruitment and retention of qualified staff and in the development and maintenance of a positive and supportive team atmosphere. May interview and recommend hiring qualified associates.
- May assist with and/or conduct associate performance reviews.
- May assess the training needs for staff, and provide training as needed.
- Work with community leadership to resolve issues identified by residents and/or their family members.
- May perform routine safety inspections and ensure compliance with regulations for a safe living and work environment are followed.
- May assist management team to organize, develop, and conduct service plan reviews; supervises the maintenance of resident charts; reviews documentation performed by the resident care team.
- Ensure that the director team and associates maintain an environment which focuses on delivery of services by promoting individual resident capabilities through coordination of operations and programming functions for all departments.
- Lead the community’s strategic planning initiative to establish goals and objectives in response to corporate goals.
- Inform Executive Director (ED) and appropriate corporate office associates of any concerns related to the community, residents, or associates. Create reporting structure during absence of ED.
- Ensure successful implementation of policies, procedures, and programs within the guidelines of state regulations and Morning Pointe policies.
- Promote a positive and engaging culture for team members, residents, and families.
- Assist EDs of Personal Care and Memory Care Communities with supervision and management on a temporary, extended or as needed basis.
General / Leadership:

- Responsibilities include review, feedback and plans of action (if applicable) for all aspects of operations including marketing, staffing, resident care and services, budgeting, safety and building maintenance.
- Ensure that resident’s rights are well established and maintained at all times.
- Ensure successful implementation of policies, procedures, and programs within the guidelines of state regulations and Morning Pointe policies.
- Monitor resident, family, and associate satisfaction. Review complaints and grievances and makes written reports of action taken. Discuss such actions with appropriate parties.
- Provide oversight of the community’s strategic planning initiative to establish goals and objectives in response to corporate goals.
- Provide leadership, training and direction to the community leadership team in coordination with the ED & Regional Vice President (RVP) on creation of annual development plans for each department and community goals.
- Inform supervisor of any concerns related to the community, residents, or associates. Create reporting structure during absence of ED.
- Provide recognition and promote a positive and engaging culture for team members, residents, and families.
- Strive to maintain a safe working environment through the prevention of accidents, the preservation of equipment, and the achievement of safe working practices.
- Responsible for securing annual Continuing Education Units required by the state to hold the appropriate administrator state license (if applicable) as a Morning Pointe ED. Attend all required training, in-service, and staff meetings; participate in workshops, seminars, etc., to keep abreast of current data affecting senior living facilities, as well as to maintain a professional status.
Staff Management:
- Ensure implementation of Morning Pointe staffing model and schedule labor hours consistent with staffing model (minimizing overtime) including proper level of staffing at all times.
- Provide leadership and direction to ED and community directors and provide feedback concerning the operation of their departments to assist in eliminating/correcting problem areas, and/or improvement of services.
- Ensure that meetings are held and that appropriate information sharing is provided on a continuous basis.
- Attend daily stand up on a regular basis.
- Maintain a cohesive team environment among departments and campus communities (if applicable).
- Ensure appropriate new hire orientation and monthly in-service training for all associates is conducted while meeting state and corporate in-service training requirements.
- Ensure that appropriate associate counseling and disciplinary actions occur.
- Ensure that personnel files are created and maintained for all associates. Ensure record retention system meets state and corporate guidelines.

- Ensure proper administration of Workers’ Compensation and Unemployment Compensation programs.
- Ensure there is required coverage for Manager on Duty program.
Operations and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations. Notify supervisor of any visits by state officials. Give prompt attention to any cited deficiencies.
- Support and provide oversight of all Morning Pointe programs.
- Review monthly reports and work with community leadership to focus on areas where improvement is needed.
- Provide guidance and review investigations of incidents, accidents, or complaints.
- Ensure state regulations, company programs, policies and applicable guidelines are followed by associates, residents, visitors, and the general public.
- Monitor resident care to ensure daily rounds and quality assurance programs are in place and enforced.
- Ensure the community is survey ready at all times.
Resident Care:
- Ensure that Director of Nursing builds relationships and strong communication with residents and families to aid in the adjustment to Morning Pointe, identification of needs, concerns and appropriate service plan development for each resident.
Resident Engagement:
- Review the Activity programming and ensure it meets Morning Pointe requirements with focuses on key aspects of healthy aging and individual preferences.
- Ensure all associates have an understanding of the purpose behind activity programming and special programs such as Morning Pointe in Motion, Meaningful Day, and Best Friends Approach. Request staff training if needed.
Dietary Services:
- Ensure dining services meets and/or improves targeted goals for food cost, food quality, dining experience and resident satisfaction.
Asset Management:
- Ensure that the community grounds and property are maintained at the highest standard of excellence through preventative maintenance systems and programs. View the grounds and community through the eyes of a new visitor.
- Routinely conduct community rounds with the ED, DON, and/or Maintenance Director.
- Ensure the Participation of interactive emergency drills. Ensure associates have a solid understanding of actions to be taken in emergency situation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated record of success in a leadership capacity.
- Able to communicate effectively with all levels of associates, residents, family members, guests, vendors, referral sources, and the community at large.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; organizational and time management skills.
- Intermediate level of computer and technology competency, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other Microsoft Windows applications.
- Passion for working with seniors.
- Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
- Knowledge and understanding of the mission of Morning Pointe Senior Living.
Other Expectations:
- Perform other related essential duties as assigned.
- Occasional travel is required and a valid driver’s license and proof of insurability is required.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Registered Nurse (RN) Licensure. Licensure required by state (if applicable), or applicable experience.
- Strong leadership skills with a minimum of two (2) years' experience in supervising and management.
- A minimum of two (2) years' experience within a senior living environment or equivalent professional experience.
Physical Demands:
Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, bending, turning, and stretching. Finger and hand dexterity required. Visual and hearing acuity essential. Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions necessary. Ability to perform basic mathematical computations required.
