About the Role:
Job Summary
Responsible for researching and communicating reports of accounts pending for coding. Serves as a resource liaison for the Coding/HIM department with departments/service lines. Seeks resolution of pending issues to improve DNFB and overall Revenue Cycle. Assists HIM staff and other Revenue Cycle departments in working issues on pending reports. Presents a positive attitude as related to work. Contributes to the productive and effective operations of the HIM Department.

Licensure or other certifications:
Educational Requirements: High School Diploma
Minimum Experience: Five (5) + years of recent healthcare experience preferred, one (1) - two (2) years of on-the-job training to develop skills necessary to perform all the job functions. Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Epic, 3M and other office equipment required

Basic knowledge of billing requirements and the ability to resolve edits at the time of coding
Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
Able to use computer systems to facilitate the accurate and timely processing of patient records and coding. Performs daily tasks in Epic, 3M, and other systems as added or needed. Trained in and able to use new system updates on an ongoing basis. Utilizes other office equipment such as photocopier, fax machine and scanners.
Takes action and resolves alerts/edits for the following patient types following established procedures and thresholds: Emergency Department (ED), Recurring (RCR), Inpatient (IP), Observation (OBS), Surgical (SSS), Diagnostic Outpatient (OP).
Escalates alert/edit resolution issues as appropriate to minimize final billing delays.
Monitors the aging of accounts held by an alert/edit, prioritizes aged accounts first, and reports to leadership.
Acts as a liaison between Patient Accounts, Case Management, Patient Access, Clinical Departments, HIM Staff, Revenue Cycle QA and Coders, working with each area to resolve alerts/edits, as needed.
Researches unbilled accounts to identify reason for coding/billing edit and routes accounts in Epic to the appropriate work queue for further resolution when unable to be resolved by Liaison.
Performs other HIM Assignments as directed. Ad Hoc Reports in 3M Reporter and/or Epic. Special projects as assigned per Coding Manager, Coding Auditor/Educator, HIM Operations Manager and/or HIM Director
Performs various job duties to ensure records are available electronically in the document imaging system for coding. Assigns deficiencies when necessary for additional documentation (i.e. Medical Necessity clarification, OP/Procedure reports, H&Ps, Discharge Summaries, other physician queries) and works closely with HIM Medical Staff Coordinator and HIM QA Representative for Analysis. Works closely with HIM Customer Service staff as assigned to facilitate completion of accounts in trigger queues. Researching/trouble-shooting missing documentation from the chart(s). Facilitate indexing of records into the document imaging system.
Adheres to all applicable coding and billing regulations and guidance, including but not limited to CMS, AHA and NGHS policies and procedures.
