Licensed Vocational Nurse – Corrections
The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides patient care and education for patients in the ambulatory clinics/areas under the direct supervision of the registered nurse, advanced practice registered nurse, physician assistant, physician, dentist, or podiatrist. The LVN uses the nursing process to ensure physical, social, psychological and spiritual needs are met. The LVN is responsible for assisting in the determination of predictable healthcare needs of clients within structured healthcare settings who are experiencing common, well-defined health problems with predictable outcomes. The LVN utilizes a systematic approach to provide individualized, goal-directed nursing care. The LVN coordinates care between members of the healthcare team to optimize the patient/client's understanding of their condition and care requirements within the LVN scope of practice.
Corrections LVN Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Monitor patient health and vital signs, such as taking blood pressure and blood glucose readings
- Handle basic care for clinic patients, such as changing bandages and taking patient history
- May give medications and immunizations as ordered and monitor for adverse reactions
- Talk to patients about their care and address their concerns
- Collect samples and do routine laboratory testing
- Report patient concerns, vital signs, and other information to nursing teams or physicians
- Assessment of patient needs using established triage protocols
Depending on setting, may also:
- Float among various clinical services, where qualified and competent
Other Responsibilities:
- Completes required orientation as directed by facility
- Follows facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures while on assignment
- Respects cultural and religious practices of patients
- Upholds HIPAA regulations
- Punctual and dependent for assigned/confirmed shifts
- Understands and performs to the standards of care and within the scope of practice of their state’s certification

Physical Requirements:
This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The Contractor may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations, operative/invasive procedures. The Contractor may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The Contractor must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete all Credentialing Health requirements as a condition of employment, such as TB, Hepatitis, Rubella, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: Must possess a certificate of completion for Licensed Vocational Nursing from an accredited school of nursing or accredited school for all other certifications.
- Experience: At least (12) months recent experience working within your specialty within the last three years, 2 years preferred.
- Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted Texas or Compact LVN license in good standing. (Expiration date applies).

- BLS - American Heart Association only (Expiration date applies).
