This position offers an excellent opportunity to advance a career in Federal court service. Currently we are seeking applicants for a full-time Information Technology Specialist.
The position will be primarily responsible for providing end user support activities. This includes help desk support and support for the installation and configuration of computer hardware and software programs, as well as second-level end user support. The IT Specialist will perform routine to moderately complex troubleshooting for hardware and software systems and may serve as a lead to other staff, depending on experience and qualifications.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
• Provides day-to-day technical support, assistance, and training. Troubleshoots hardware and software problems. Creates user accounts and local court forms from off-the-shelf software. Customizes programs for local needs and trains staff in their use.
- Responds to help desk calls, emails and web access requests and resolves issues in a timely manner or escalates them to the next level of support.
- Provides information and assistance on word processing, internet applications and data entry.
- Creates and runs reports. Installs or assists in the installation of upgraded or new or revised off-the-shelf/desktop releases. Installs, configures and documents hardware and software issues.
- Provides support for telephone system, mobile computing devices and remote access.
- Assists with cabling support, network maintenance, backups and inventory control.
- Prepares and maintains documents for end users and IT staff.
- Maintains contact with other IT professionals within the federal judiciary to keep abreast of developments, techniques and user programs. Monitors day-to-day operations of the equipment and systems. Acts as the technical expert in solving computer system problems.
- Recommends hardware, equipment, and software updates. Conducts market research on product availability and pricing. Procures goods and services as a designated procurement officer.
- Maintains and provides troubleshooting support for the court’s National Applications (i.e., case management systems, e-Filing systems, Jury Management systems), as well as Active Directory, IIS, Informix, Exchange and SQL Servers, and other court-developed software applications and services.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To qualify for the position, candidates must have:
· A high school diploma or equivalent
· At least one (1), but preferably two (2) years of specialized experience which provided the candidate with progressively responsible experience that is in, or closely related to, the work of the position and which has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, including:
· Progressively responsible experience providing end user technical support, troubleshooting and configuring hardware and software problems.
· Experience in configuring, installing and supporting desktop and laptop/tablet computers and related peripheral devices, as well as mobile computing devices (specifically Apple iO devices) is essential.
· Experience in end user support of Microsoft Office enterprise software products including MS Outlook, Teams, Office 365 (including OneDrive and OneNote) is highly desirable.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Preference will be given to individuals with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field of study.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
· Highly motivated, personable, dependable, adaptable, and able to remain calm under pressure.
· Ability to communicate effectively (orally and in writing) to end users in a manner they can understand, function well both independently and in a team environment, and provide excellent customer service to a wide variety of people with tact and courtesy.
· Strong organizational skills, including the ability to handle multiple assignments and prioritize work.
· Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter, work with a strong attention to detail, deliver work timely and demonstrate flexibility.
· Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and demonstrate sound ethics and good judgment.
· A professional demeanor and appearance appropriate for a court environment is required.
BACKGROUND CHECK:
As a condition of employment, the selected candidate may be required to successfully complete a seven-year background investigation with a favorable suitability determination, and every five years thereafter will be subject to a re-investigation.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Court employees are required to adhere to the Code of Conduct for Federal Judicial Employees. This position is subject to mandatory electronic funds transfer for payroll direct deposit.
