Position Summary: The Behavioral Health Instructor shall provide service members with the education and training through lectures, hands-on instruction, and clinical practice required to comprehend, evaluate, and apply information relevant to the role of the behavioral health technician apprentice to make them technically proficient in entry-level skills required to fulfill the role of a basic Behavioral Health Technician, (BHT).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure all student’s course materials; general references and examinations are clearly written, technically, and didactically correct and revised sufficiently to maintain state-of-the-art instruction as directed by the course Curriculum Development staff. Provide recommendations to update course and class materials as appropriate.
- Provide students with clear course objectives and classroom expectations; ensure that course content and objectives are met. Utilizing a variety of teaching styles and methods to accommodate the diverse learning styles of students.
- Respond to student questions and inquiries in a timely manner and document concerns and forward them to the Program Director or designee for action. Provide guidance and academic support to students.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and call on or follow up with absent students.
- Conduct examination reviews, administer examinations as scheduled, and proctor to ensure testing integrity. Scheduled and unscheduled remedial training as needed to assist students with course material.
- Actively work to maintain student retention within the program by identifying at-risk students and providing tutoring and program plans to help them succeed.
- Able to increase student learning through the development of a relevant progressive curriculum, designing effective learning strategies and environments, delivering instruction of high quality, advising students, and participating in teaching scanning labs.
- When directed, shall input student grades and academic counseling forms into program records and students’ master training records.
- Coordinate with other instructors to determine class schedules. (Final decisions and determinations are reserved for the METC Designated Government Representative.)
- Provide End of Course (EOC) feedback that shall be utilized for course improvement.
- Comply with all institutional, accrediting, and regulatory agency policies and procedures.
- Attend and participate in training and meetings, as directed by the Program Directors, and met consistent with the educational principles of METC, which focus on meeting the learning needs of students.
- Maintain subject matter knowledge of course material to program faculty by receiving an overall rating of “Excellent” on instructor evaluations.
- Submit Monthly report.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Associate's degree
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a BHT working in either an outpatient clinic or inpatient facility. Prior military and deployment experience preferred.
- Possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor certification or the ability to obtain BLS Instructor certification within 30 days of employment. The program shall facilitate course attendance and the opportunity to obtain this certification.
- Be able to pass and maintain annual certification of levels I thru IV of the Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior-Military (PMDB-M).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills and are capable of learning and utilizing current and emerging military and commercial technology.
- Knowledge of instructional techniques and training methodologies to develop, implement, evaluate, and revise training programs.
- Experience utilizing a variety of instructional technologies, training equipment, and teaching methods to incorporate the principles of adult learning into teaching practices.
- Basic knowledge of computer equipment and the assigned area of system software.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and able to incorporate programs including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, and SharePoint.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $33.00 - $34.00 per hour
