Job Summary:
Coordinate the timely movement of all express routes in a safe and effective manner, in compliance with company rules and DOT regulations. Assign workload to available drivers and aides, monitor student movement, and resolve any scheduling issues. Properly use all routing software systems.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Identify and resolve daily service and scheduling issues. Inform and escalate service issues to management as appropriate. Maintain timely and professional communication with customer contacts on issues impacting service and overall performance.
2. Direct and schedule drivers' work. Notify drivers of work assignments to ensure on-time movement of goods to maximize operational efficiency.
3. Regularly monitor driver activities and performance.
4. Oversight of all express dispatch and routing.
5. Assist accounts payable with tracking and processing billing/payroll.
6. Respond to parent and student transportation questions.
7. Communicate with shop personnel on fleet maintenance to ensure proper maintenance and effective scheduling in SBI shop and local shops for routine maintenance.
8. Responsible for the timely pickup and delivery of all customer orders within assigned area while maintaining.
9. Responsible for assisting the operation with customer service. This includes answering customer inquiries, answering incoming calls, working with customers at our location and ensuring that all customers are treated based on the Company’s acceptable guidelines.
10. Monitor and communicate effectively through two-way radios, computerized texting and telephones.
11. Maintain bus/van routes and student data in routing program; monitor, update and ensure the accuracy of all system data.
12. Utilize integrated routing software programs to establish and sustain routes to be as efficient as possible.
13. Verifies accuracy of route times, stop times/ location are correct (route deviation).
14. Run and complete various operation reports weekly or as needed.
15. Read maps, follow written and geographic directions according to route / trip logs.
16. Assists Transportation Manager by maintaining transportation records, various state/federal/district reports such as mileage and fuel report, invoicing, complete purchase orders, and payroll documentation. Complete Purchase orders (in absence of Manager) for vendors.
17. Coordinate activities of school bus drivers, van drivers and other duties as assigned by the Transportation Manager.
18. Work effectively as a team member within the department, building and across the district.
19. Will ensure that all shift routes are filled daily and in advance.
20. Serve as a substitute driver, operate and safely drive in either good or adverse weather, road and traffic conditions while transporting passengers to school or special events. Comply with traffic regulations while operating vehicles in a safe and courteous manner in times of driver shortages.
21. Communicate van/bus rules, safety and behavior requirements to passengers; and address improper behavior immediately while using appropriate interpersonal communication skills.
22. Performs other duties as assigned by leadership.
