North Shore Ear, Nose, & Throat is a specialty care private practice dedicated to providing high-quality medical care. We are looking for a full time (40 hours) Surgical Scheduler for our Otolaryngology practice. This team is responsible for scheduling surgeries as assigned by the physicians and coordinating with multiple surgical sites, insurances, and the physician's schedule. We are looking for a seasoned scheduler that is professional, works well with others and enjoys people. He or she must be self-motivated, and have excellent organizational and problem solving skills and have worked in a similar position previously. We are a fast paced, clinical environment dealing with confidential information, therefore, discretion is paramount.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Schedule surgeries based on surgeons’ schedules and available dates according to predetermined block schedules and established policies and procedures
- Answer questions regarding paperwork involved for compliance with surgical procedures
- Call insurance company to learn if a pre-authorization is required
- Provide guidance to patients about how to call their insurance to verify coverages
- Schedule surgery appointments and perform follow up and reminder duties
- Record and compile scheduling information on hospital and departmental computer systems. Review and verify accuracy of basic patient information.
- Print and distribute daily operating room schedule to designated departments
- Respond to patients’ queries regarding surgery times and what to ingest (or not) prior to a surgery
- Walk patients and families through instructions about “things to do” before and after surgeries
- Schedule post-surgical appointments with doctors
- Coordinating surgical cases for multiple surgeons at multiple locations
- Superior attention to detail
- EMR experience
- Training back‐up personnel on scheduling policies and procedures
- Successful candidate must be kind and empathetic with patients and possess outstanding customer service skills
Requirements:
- A high school level of educational development and three to four years' experience. Associates or Bachelors preferred.
- Experience scheduling surgical procedures preferred.
- The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and provide empathy in difficult interpersonal situations.
- Electronic medical record and knowledge preferred.
