JOB DESCRIPTION:
As our Licensed Customs Broker, you will report to our Senior Customs Specialist and Chief of Operations to ensure the timely clearance of all imported products. Your key responsibilities are to:
● Ensure Accurate container filings for customs clearance
● Ensure any missing documentation from customers is requested quickly and actioned
● Maintain accurate records to ensure compliance and develop controls and procedures.
● Perform post-entry work required to correct errors before filing
● Work with the freight team to ensure efficiencies are realized through compatible processes.
● Conduct audits as directed by the Senior Customs Specialist and COO
● Work closely with government agencies to maintain positive relationships
● Keep up-to-date with import regulations impacting the business to ensure continued compliance.
● Facilitate new business acquisition and account development related to the full range of customs services
● Participate in onboarding new customers as required.
MEASURABLE COMPETENCIES:
● Mastery of NetSuite & Customs software integrations
● Skilled in Microsoft Office (Mid-level to Advanced Excel Skills) and Google platforms
● Excellent customer service and customer relationship management skills
● Excellent written skill, to easily convey complex messaging to a variety of audiences
● Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate easily, efficiently, and transparently with others to de-escalate conflict.
● Strong attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
● Ability to hold yourself and your team accountable in an environment where errors are inevitable
● Excellent time management, specifically mastering urgent vs less urgent tasks based on deadlines, workload, and team strengths
REQUIREMENTS
● Must have a valid U.S. Customs Brokerage License. Customs Compliance Specialist (CCS) certification preferred
● Experience in global logistics, entry writing, import/export compliance, commodity controls, regulatory, and security initiatives
● Experience with international shipping and receiving processes
● Understanding of Tariff and Product Classifications
● Bachelor’s Degree or related industry experience
● General understanding of customs software, platforms, and tools
● Mid-level to Advanced Excel skills
● Proficient in Apple/MAC computer systems
