Job Description:
CDSS is seeking compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professionals to provide direct care/support and advocacy for adults diagnosed with intellectual and physical disabilities. The position requires ensuring that participants receive the highest quality of care and support through the person-centered planning (PCP) process, which involves assisting in proactive steps to work towards achieving goals outlined in the person-centered plans.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with Activities of Daily Living skills (ADLs) as needed, such as eating/drinking, toileting, dressing, verbal communication, etc.
- Identify and offer meaningful activities to the individuals being supported, with input from participants and caregivers.
- Act in a dignified, respectful manner and honor the participant’s rights, preferences, and needs as determined within the person-centered plan.
- Provide in-person and virtual activities while following all health and safety guidelines.
- Assist in providing instructional support to the participants.
- Document all services provided accurately and per CDSS, state, and federal regulations.
- Work with participants to help achieve individual goals and objectives.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
- Valid Driver’s license, clean driving record, and 3+ years of driving experience.
- Ability to perform and meet job and physical requirements.
- Smartphone with internet capability and basic knowledge of the internet, apps, email, and GPS.
- At least 1 year of experience working with people with intellectual and physical disabilities.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize.
Physical Requirements:
- Lifting/transferring approximately 50 to 100 pounds (usually with assistance).
- Pushing/pulling (i.e. wheelchair) 100 pounds.
- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, bending, reaching, fine motor skills.
Non-Essential Duties:
- Attend external meetings, conferences, and training as needed/requested by the supervisor.
- Additional duties as assigned by the Director.
