Rivet is a tax prep firm, built by technologists. Combining corporate tax, personal taxes, R&D credits, and bookkeeping in one firm, Rivet is designed to make tax season take as little of our client’s time as possible, without leaving tax savings on the table.
While we may have just gotten started, this certainly isn’t our first rodeo –
*
Nick Abouzeid (cofounder & CEO) ran two growth teams at Ramp (the fastest growing SaaS company in history) and prev. ran marketing at MainStreet ($3M —> $15M ARR in 2 years).
- Kyle Christenson (cofounder & Head of Tax) was an auditor at the IRS for six years, after which he joined MainStreet to focus on their most complex claims
We incorporated on January 10th, and after our first tax season, we’ve booked over $500k of business across 150+ clients. We’re well-capitalized (>3 years of runway) after raising a small round from XYZ Venture Capital and 40+ executives from Ramp, Newfront, Deel, Vial, & more.
*
This role is eligible for equity in our firm on Day 1. *We’re looking to compensate generously, with an emphasis on equity for the right hire. We wouldn’t have left our jobs or raised venture capital if we didn’t believe this to be a $1b+ opportunity and we want to build a team whose incentives are deeply aligned with our success in the long term.

About the product & the role*
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to work with both:
*
our founders and engineering team, guiding our product roadmap to build and improve our proprietary platform designed to obsolete the tedium of tax prep. If we do our job right, your time should be spent on high-leverage, strategic work, not data entry & chasing down docs
- our clients, preparing both 1040s and 1120/1065s (80% of our returns are 1040s, while 80% of our revenue comes from 1120/1065s, it’s a health mix between the two)
Our clients range from ex & current NFL players, venture-backed startups that’ve raised tens of millions of dollars, TikTok influencers & content creators, crypto-native degens that’ve launched their own NFTs, all the way through local family farms in CA and medical doctors starting off their careers. We’ve worked hard to build a diverse client base who is eager about our model.
Rivet sits in between clients, CPAs, and tax engines like Drake and ProSeries. Here a few examples of tasks we’re working on automating so you never have to do them again:
*
document management, organization, naming, and storage. One of our core workstreams is focused on automating document collection (clients send them to us via email, text, and upload them to our dashboard). Rivet scans each document to ensure it’s what we actually need (eg. confirming it’s a 2023 W2, not a 2022 W2), deletes the duplicate pages in the PDF, and then names it correctly in our document storage portal
- data entry. Retyping four hundred trades from a 1099 is a complete waste of anyone’s time. Low hanging fruit – working with industry-leading tools like Gruntworx and ChatGPT to convert PDFs into JSON payloads that we can upload directly into Drake.
- email comms. We’re building models trained on what we believe a great client comm looks like designed to take the mental burden off starting every email from a blank screen.
*
What we’re not building*
“AI tax preparers.” We believe that humans need to be deeply involved in every return we deliver to clients. Our lowest price engagements start out at $1k/year – our clients are paying for premium service and correct numbers. ChatGPT is neither premium nor correct when it comes to tax prep, and won’t be (we believe ever).
*
What you’ll do*
We’re a fully distributed team. If you’d like to work in an office, we can work through our network of investors and supporters to find somewhere beautiful for you locally.
*
Work with Kyle Christenson, our cofounder/Head of Tax, and directly with our clients to support with their personal and corporate tax prep needs. Our bottleneck is not clients, but top-tier, dedicated preparers who are excited & eager
- Help drive and influence our product roadmap, reporting directly to the cofounders
- Handle tax notices from the IRS and state taxing authorities through to resolution.
- Shape our early tax preparer team culture and processes – we haven’t broken anything quite yet. Help us build Rivet correctly from the ground up
- Help establish and influence our firm processes, tools, and systems that will allow us to scale the our practice, productivity, and the team
*
What you’ll need*
*
5-10 years minimum experience preparing taxes (either personal or corporate, preferably both), open to candidates with exceptional experiences who may not have strictly 4 years of experience in the field (eg. worked while in school)
- 1-2 years of experience working on corporate returns, Forms 1120 preferred, 1120-S & 1065 acceptable
- An active EA or CPA license
- Passionate about helping businesses and individuals save time & money, both across their entire personal financial lives & on their taxes. If you get excited about Mega Backdoor Roths, R&D credits, or NIMCRUTs, this position is for you
- Demonstrated ability to dissect complex client problems, identify solutions, and drive these solutions to completion with a high degree of autonomy
- High level of resourcefulness and a track record of being a fast learner
- Committed to mentoring others and being mentored
*
Nice to haves*
*
Direct experience with Drake
- Experience engaging with high net worth clients that require a level of professional discretion
- An eagerness to get experience with ChatGPT or other new AI agent tools
We’re looking to compensate generously, with an emphasis on equity in the firm for the right hire. We wouldn’t have left our jobs or raised money if we didn’t believe this to be a $1b+ opportunity (each of Deloitte, EY, KPMG, and PwC do $35 billion in revenue/year) and we want to build a team whose incentives are deeply aligned with our success in the long term.
