ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Reviews personnel records to determine names, rates of pay, and occupations of newly hired workers, and changes in wage rates and occupations of employees on payroll.

Records, or directs recording of new or changed pay rates in payroll register or computer files.

Directs and computes pay according to company policy.

Directs compilation and preparation of other payroll data such as pension, insurance, and all other payments.

Reviews and approves payroll deductions.
-
Interprets company policies and government regulations affecting payroll and benefit procedures.

Prepares government reports as needed.

Reviews payroll to ensure accuracy.

Enrolls new employees in benefit plans and provides benefits orientation.

Processes status changes for benefits and reviews claims.
-
Administers open enrollment for benefits.
-
Maintains vendor contact to investigate discrepancies and provide information in non-routine situations.

Performs and approves bill payment calculations and reconciliations for benefit payments.

Provides vendors appropriate documentation for life, pension, and disability benefits claims.

Evaluates and compares existing employee benefits with those of other employers by analyzing other plans, surveys, and other sources of information.

Analyzes results of comparison and surveys and develops specific recommendations for review by management.

Analyzes employee utilization of current benefits and develops specific recommendations for review by management.

Assists in preparing materials and in presenting benefit plan changes to employees.

Issues annual individual summary of benefits to employees.

Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow.

Issues written and oral instructions when needed.

Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances.

Adjusts errors and complaints.
-
Maintains employee benefit files and other record keeping.
-
Assists with scheduling interviews and other pre-employment functions when needed.

Assists with phones in the absence of receptionist.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
Prefer Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; Prefer two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Human Resource systems; Internet software; Payroll systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
