ITE is looking for construction environmental inspector to support rail systems installations. This position assists and oversees compliance with Environmental Protection Regulations (e.g., RCRA, CAA, FIFRA, TSCA) at NYC Transit projects. The individual monitors waste generation, handling and storage sites; reviews develops hazardous waste minimization plans; prepares comprehensive reports on environmental compliance issues including audits; and facilities chemical inventory reporting (e.g., under SARA Title III requirements). Participates in NYCT’s emergency response to accidents/incidents.
The successful candidate must have experience with regulatory compliance and detailed working knowledge of Federal environmental laws and regulations, especially those concerning hazardous substances, and familiarity with related New York State and City environmental laws and regulations. Experience with environmental management systems (implementation and maintenance) is desired. Excellent oral communications and writing skills required.
Responsibilities
· Prepares daily reports and other documentation, as required by contract.
· Review submittals, shop drawings and permit applications.
· Review and ensure compliance with all relevant permits.
· Perform audits to ensure that contractor is in compliance with documentation requirement.
· Coordinate inspections with regulator agencies.
· Collects, reviews and files Certificate of Compliance, MSDS, inspection tags and other information relevant to the materials used.
· Coordinates sampling and material testing events.
· Recommends job safety practices and drafts safety reports.
· Prepares quality control reports and recommends changes to procedures.
· Responds to the call backs in case of emergency at the project site.
· Plans and coordinates all field inspection activities and reviews the work of Representatives to ensure compliance with job specifications.
Qualifications
· Strength of Character
· 3 to 5 years of construction experience on transit projects.
· BS. in Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene or related would be a plus
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times position.
