The primary responsibility of the direct care worker is to help the individual reach his or her highest level of independence through implementation of the personal centered plan (PCP). They are responsible for developing and maintaining a warm environment, which is conductive to optimal development of the individual served.
The Direct Support Pofessional is responsible for teaching the activities of daily living including, but not limited to personal care and hygiene, housekeeping, meal preparation, money management, communication, travel in the community, shopping, eating out at restaurants, use of community resources, socialization with persons in the community and housemates, and appropriate use of leisure time.
The direct care worker participates in the development of the personal centered plan (PCP) and are responsible for its implementation on a daily basis. They carry out programs in independent living skills and implement behavior programs as specified in the PCP.
The direct care worker collects data on a regular basis as specified in the PCP and participate in monthly reviews of data and of the entire PCP.
The Direct Support Professional are responsible for following individual activity schedules, which are designed for each individual.
They are responsible for daily record keeping and for writing periodic progress notes on each of the individuals served.
The Direct Support Professional is responsible for understanding all FCI policies and procedures relevant to the Vocational/Residential Program, for respecting the rights of individuals served, treating individuals served with dignity and respect, and providing them training in skills to enable them to live in progressively less supervised environments.
Qualifications:
To qualify, a person must show interest in and present evidence of the capacity to assist individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Mandatory qualifications also include:
· Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a state high school equivalency
Must pass a Math and English test given. Interviews on Tuesday 11:30 am at 4910 Decatur Street, Hyattsville, MD 20781 with proper ID. Proof of COVID vaccination must be provided. Face covering must be worn. Complete a written application.
