POSITION: Special Education Resource Teacher
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in special education or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
- Valid Texas teaching certification in Special Education.
- Experience working with students with disabilities in a school setting.
- Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students, staff, and parents.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Special Education Resource Teacher is responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities, ensuring their access to the general education curriculum. This role involves collaborating with general education teachers, parents, and support staff to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that meet each student’s unique needs. The teacher will create an inclusive learning environment that promotes academic, social, and emotional growth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instructional Planning and Delivery
· Develop and implement individualized lesson plans based on students’ IEPs.
· Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
· Utilize a variety of teaching strategies and techniques to ensure all students have access to the general education curriculum.
IEP Development and Implementation
- Participate in IEP meetings to develop, review, and update IEPs for assigned students.
- Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals and objectives.
- Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and relevant staff regarding student progress and any adjustments needed to the IEP.
Classroom Management
- Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom environment.
- Implement classroom management strategies that promote positive behavior and engagement.
- Address and manage challenging behaviors effectively, following established protocols and behavior intervention plans.
Collaboration and Communication
· Collaborate with general education teachers to support the inclusion of students with disabilities in the general education setting.
· Work with related service providers (e.g., speech therapists, occupational therapists) to coordinate and deliver services.
· Maintain open lines of communication with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders.
Professional Development
- Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education.
- Engage in reflective practice and seek feedback to improve instructional techniques and student outcomes.
Compliance and Documentation
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations related to special education.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records, including IEP documentation, progress reports, and assessment data.
Other
· Performs all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or others.
· Performs additional duties and accepts other responsibilities as may be assigned.
· Serves as an advisor to a group of students, as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and sitting.
- Ability to work in various classroom environments, including general education and resource rooms.
- Typical school environment with standard office and classroom equipment.
- Occasional exposure to bodily fluids and infectious diseases.
- May require occasional evening or weekend work for meetings and professional development. May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek.

Pay: $53,500.00 - $72,000.00 per year
