Position: Veterinary Technicians - spay and neuter surgery technicians and shelter animal medical team technicians

Position Overview:
The Texas Humane Heroes Veterinary Team consists of a group of veterinary technicians that work together to care for both shelter animals and staff our spay and neuter clinic. There are currently multiple positions available on this team.
Please know that this position is physically demanding which includes prolonged standing, walking, climbing, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50 lbs, etc.
Organizational Structure:All Veterinary Technicians report to the Director of Medical Services.
Position Responsibilities:
Shelter Medical Tech Responsibilities:
Ensure the Health and Wellness of Program Animals
- Daily cleaning, feeding, watering and medicating all program animals who are in isolation/treatment areas
- Move sick/contagious animals into isolation areas for treatment and create a treatment plan
- Manage Ringworm patients and ensure treatments are completed twice weekly
- Ability to locate illness and determine treatment plan for critical cases and communicate with staff effectively to ensure cleaning procedures are followed correctly
- Administer regular preventive medications and vaccinations
- Ability to use Pet Point program to input care and medical information, look up animal information, and update in a timely manner
Coordinate with Adopters when contacted regarding 14 Day Promise
- Communicate with adopters effectively regarding animal health concerns and treatment plans
- Prepare medications needed for Adopters and give detailed instructions
- Respond to all communication of 14 Day Promise Adopters within 24 hours and schedule exams/follow up appointments as needed
Coordinate with Intake Manager regarding new animals
- Provide and administer all necessary intake exams, preventive medications, microchips, vaccinations and Heartworm/Felv tests as needed in order to prepare animals for adoption
Daily Operations
- Administer vaccines for public animals during daily vet tech checks
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks while working on an individual basis
- Speak with potential adopters/adopters who have questions/concerns about animals’ health and sign and explain medical waivers when necessary
Spay/Neuter Clinic Positions

Duties in these positions include, but are not limited to:
- Assist during Patient Check In Process
- Examine animal’s overall health
- Weigh each animal and record
- Set up pack stations and the rest of surgery room
- Sedate and Prep animals for Surgery
- IV injection of anesthesia
- Monitor animal’s vital signs
- Intubation of patient
- Shave animal appropriately
- Properly connect to anesthesia machine
- Properly scrub animal and open pack
- Review Paperwork to Ensure All Services are Provided
- Assist in Counseling Client’s during Checkout Process
- Clean and Organize Clinic
Other:
- Knowledgeable on all adoption and clinic pricing, adoption counseling standards, and current medical protocols
- Knowledge and understanding of the five freedoms of animal welfare
- Fear Free certification obtained within 30 days of hire
