We are seeking a part-time caregiver in Evanston, Illinois to assist with the care of my 100 yo grandmother who lost her vision a few years ago, for 12-16 hours a week.
Family and other caregivers cover the rest of the hours. There is some flexibility on what your schedule could be, but we would prefer setting hours that stay stable week-to-week. Blocks of time for which we most need coverage are listed below. There would also be some scheduled or last-minute opportunities to fill in for other caregivers, but that would not be a condition of the job.
She has mid-stage dementia, so care involves reassuring her, helping her stand and get from place to place (often in a wheelchair), changing depends when necessary, and light meal prep. There's a lot of time when you're just sitting with her, so this job would be great for a student or anyone who does a lot of reading, crafting or computer work.
You would go through the hiring process through the agency we work with, but could choose to work only with our family.
In your response, please tell us a bit about yourself and your experience with caregiving. Our family has multiple LGBTQ members, so applicants with an understanding of or connection to the LGBTQ community are preferred.
