We are recruiting for a team of 20 AmeriCorps members for the Attendance Matters® 2024-2025 school year. AmeriCorps members will work in teams of two and serve in a local middle schools providing one-on-one, group social-emotional support including in-class support, check-ins with students, and group activities to 15-25 chronically absent students throughout the school day, primarily during lunch periods. Positions are 20 or 30 hours per week and begin on August 26, 2024, and end on June 30, 2025.
Responsibilities and Related Tasks:
- Collaborate with school administration to identify and enroll students for participation in the mentoring program.
- Mentor students through periodic group activities, check-ins, and in-class support.
- Keep accurate and detailed program records.
- Assist Director of Community Impact in periodic collection of program data for evaluation.
- Effectively interact with school staff and a diverse set of volunteers from the local community.
- Uphold the highest standards of student protection, privacy, and safety.
- Participate in all professional development, training, and periodic community service events.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to reliably and frequently travel between United Way’s office and the assigned middle school.
- Fluency in English.
- Strong oral and written communication, problem solving, and relationship-building skills.
- Must be a United States Citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident.
- AmeriCorps members model positive attendance for local middle school students and must be present consistently throughout the school year.

AmeriCorps is a national service program and members will earn the following living allowance (not a wage or salary) and an education award:
20 Hours / Week (900 total hours): $13,617 living allowance and $3,697 education award
30 Hours / Week (1200 total hours): $19,068 living allowance and $5,176 education award
Scheduling flexibility available for weekday work to accommodate other life responsibilities like school, family, or other part-time employment. However primary work hours are during school lunch periods. This position does not offer remote work.
