Job Summary:
Assistant Teachers work collaboratively with the Classroom Teacher in all day-to-day aspects of classroom management: teaching, assisting students, supervising play, organizing and maintaining classroom materials, clerical duties, etc. Additional involvement such as curricular planning, attending parent conferences, parent interaction, consulting with other faculty, or contributing to student evaluation and documentation may occur if the Classroom Teacher welcomes such involvement or deems it appropriate. All assistant teachers are responsible for supporting students daily through meaningful and robust supervision in the classroom and on the playground.
Assistant Teachers for the coming school year (180 workdays) are scheduled to work at least 7.5 hours per day, Monday through Friday, beginning at or around 8:00am and ending at or around 3:30 pm (specific start and end time may vary, depending on grade level and assignment). Regular recess, lunch, and dismissal duties are as assigned.
Assistant Teachers have the opportunity to learn under the supervision and mentorship of an experienced lead teacher; the role is a one year commitment and Assistants who wish to return for a second or third year are recommended by teachers and appointed by the Head of Lower School. In addition, Assistant Teachers participate in a variety of professional development activities which are scheduled periodically throughout the school year during school hours.
Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s Degree in a related field required
● Ideal candidates are graduate students, pursuing a Masters in Education degree, or recently certified teachers
● A commitment to further developing diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging related skillset
● Enthusiastic desire and commitment to learn and improve professionally
Compensation:
Starting salary: $27,000
Assistant Teacher employee agreements are written for 180 school days and paid September-June; these positions are eligible for health insurance benefits.
